DENTON, Texas – A fast start for the Aggies guided them to a 77-70 road win at Texas Woman's University on Wednesday evening.  Cameron out-scored the Pioneers 23-12 in the first quarter, which was more than enough to get the Aggies a tough road win. Â
The Aggies led for over 37 minutes and knocked down eight treys against a TWU squad that was ranked fourth in the latest NCAA South Central Regional Poll released earlier in the day.Â
Dayla Threatt led Cameron with 17 points, and she added eight boards.
Brandi Leal had 15 points with four made shots from beyond the arc. Â
Charron Montgomery scored nine points and dished out five assists;
Savanna James and
Cristina Soriano both had eight points.Â
Cameron edged TWU 50 to 44 in the rebounding battle with
DJ Vallier pulling down a game high 12 rebounds. Â From the field, CU went 28-for-61 (45.9%) but struggled from the line going 13-for-23. Â The Pioneers went 29-for-78 (37.2%) and faired poorly at the arc making one three pointer. Â Like the Aggies, they struggled at the line going 11-for-23.Â
Turnovers kept Texas Woman's in the game with Cameron committing 21 which TWU would score 26 points off of. Â Points in the paint and second chance points were even for both programs.Â
Cameron pulled away as many as 24 points late in the third quarter but hit a wall in the final ten minutes scoring only nine points to TWU's 23. Â The Pioneers would close the gap to single digits in the final minute, but the gap was too much to over come and ran out of time.Â
The win for the Aggies is their fourth in a row against Texas Woman's and sends the Aggies to 14-10 overall and 8-7 in the LSC; TWU will fall to 20-8 overall and 10-6 in league play.Â
Kenesha Saygo led TWU with 19 points with two others hitting ten points.Â
The Aggies will close out their regular season at home against Midwestern State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
