Cameron sweeps Texas A&M-Commerce doubleheader

LAWTON – Cameron swept an early morning doubleheader on Saturday beating Texas A&M-Commerce 3-1 and 5-4 at McMahon Field.   With the wins the Aggies took the four game series three games to one to open Lone Star Conference play.

The Lions entered their series with the Aggies picking up votes in the NFCA coaches poll but will come back to Commerce, Texas with a 12-5 overall record and 1-3 in the LSC.

Cameron will climb back 17-6 and are 3-1 in league play.

Breezy McComas got things going early for the Aggies with her third homer of the series to go up 1-0 after the first inning.  After a scoreless second inning, the Aggies put runners on second and third with two outs for Abbey Warren who drove in an RBI single; Cameron added one more run off a failed stolen base with the runner coming in from third to go up by three.

In the fourth, Emily Wasinger worked through the first two batters, but the Lions would put two on where they would double to put one on the scoreboard.  Cameron would hold the Lions to only one more hit in the sixth inning to take game one, 3-1

Wasigner (6-2) would pitch a complete game and struck out seven batters.

The Aggies collected seven hits but would leave 12 runners on base.

In game two, A&M-Commerce picked up four runs in the first inning thanks to a three run homer and a RBI single.   After a scoreless second inning, the Aggies picked up two runs off a double to left center and a RBI single by Jessie Ingrum.

The Aggies tied the game at four with a Warren homer and Ingrum homered the go-ahead run and the winning run in the fifth.

Cameron had seven hits with Warren having a pair of hits and runs.

Alyssa Osterdock (5-3) went six innings with two strikeouts; Wasinger came in for the seventh for the save.

The Aggies will return to action on March 1 for a non-conference doubleheader at Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
