LAWTON -- Cameron let their bats do the talking in their season opener at McMahon Field on Wednesday by run-ruling Texas-Permian Basin 11-3 in six innings in game one and blanking them 12-0 in in five innings during the nightcap. Â Â
Annie Combs,
Jessie Ingrum, and
Sonora Zukerman all cleared the fence in the doubleheader with the Aggies belting out 25 hits on UTPB pitching. Â Â
The Aggies struck first in game one with Ingrum hitting a three-run shot in the home frame of the second inning to give CU a 3-0 lead. Â UTPB (0-2) responded back in the next frame with a leadoff double which would result in two runs to close on the Aggies. Â However, Zukerman hit her 32nd career homer to score
Breezy McComas in from second to get the Aggies back up 5-2. Â In the fourth, a leadoff UTPB homer closed the Aggie lead back down to a pair but they would bat around the order for five hits and five runs to go up 10-3 after five innings. Â Â
Chelsea DeLong closed the game off with a single to left field in the sixth to put the run-rule into effect.Â
In game two,
Paige Daino hit a sac fly to center field with the bases loaded and no-outs to score pair of runs and Zukerman doubled to right center to put CU up 3-0 after the first inning. Â Combs opened the second inning with a solo homer that would lead to three more runs later in the inning and an in third the flood gates continued to open with five more runs in the third. Â Â
With the score at 12-0 the Aggies cleared the bench to win in five innings. Â Â
Alyssa Osterdock was credited for the win game one, pitching five innings, with three runs, and six strikeouts. Â
Emily Wasinger tossed a clean sixth inning to close the game out. Â Zukerman won the night cap in the circle with a complete game, three hit shutout. Â Â
The Aggies (2-0) will have a day off before traveling to Southern Arkansas on Friday through Sunday to start a series of six games against six different programs.
