CU sweeps doubleheader over UTPB

LAWTON -- Cameron let their bats do the talking in their season opener at McMahon Field on Wednesday by run-ruling Texas-Permian Basin 11-3 in six innings in game one and blanking them 12-0 in in five innings during the nightcap.

Annie Combs, Jessie Ingrum, and Sonora Zukerman all cleared the fence in the doubleheader with the Aggies belting out 25 hits on UTPB pitching.

The Aggies struck first in game one with Ingrum hitting a three-run shot in the home frame of the second inning to give CU a 3-0 lead.  UTPB (0-2) responded back in the next frame with a leadoff double which would result in two runs to close on the Aggies.  However, Zukerman hit her 32nd career homer to score Breezy McComas in from second to get the Aggies back up 5-2.   In the fourth, a leadoff UTPB homer closed the Aggie lead back down to a pair but they would bat around the order for five hits and five runs to go up 10-3 after five innings.

Chelsea DeLong closed the game off with a single to left field in the sixth to put the run-rule into effect.

In game two, Paige Daino hit a sac fly to center field with the bases loaded and no-outs to score pair of runs and Zukerman doubled to right center to put CU up 3-0 after the first inning.  Combs opened the second inning with a solo homer that would lead to three more runs later in the inning and an in third the flood gates continued to open with five more runs in the third.

With the score at 12-0 the Aggies cleared the bench to win in five innings.

Alyssa Osterdock was credited for the win game one, pitching five innings, with three runs, and six strikeouts.  Emily Wasinger tossed a clean sixth inning to close the game out.   Zukerman won the night cap in the circle with a complete game, three hit shutout.

The Aggies (2-0) will have a day off before traveling to Southern Arkansas on Friday through Sunday to start a series of six games against six different programs.
