Aggies handle Rogers State but fall in nightcap to Newman

MAGNOLIA, Ark. -- Cameron's offense came to a halt after falling to Newman 2-1 in the nightcap on Friday at the Southern Arkansas Invitational; this came after the Aggies handled Rogers State 10-2 in five innings.

In game one, the Aggies attacked early with a pair of runs in the first two innings to go up on the Hillcats 4-0.  Breezy McComas and Sonora Zukerman both had a RBI in the first and Carly Allerheiligen singled in a run in the second; CU would get their second run off of a RSU error.

Rogers State (0-2) cut the Aggie lead in half in the third inning getting a run off a sac fly and scoring off of an error with two outs.   Cameron pulled back ahead 6-2 off of a Macy McKay sac fly and a muffed outfield throw by Rogers State.

An inning later, the Aggies used four hits, a RBI single from Zukerman, a run off of a RSU error, and McKay singled up the middle to score Chelsea DeLong and Jessie Ingrum to end the game with the run-rule.

Zukerman (2-0) had a complete game win needing only 39 pitches to go to 2-0 this season.

With a short turn around to the second game the Aggie bats couldn't get a timely hit against Newman; Cameron would leave eight runners on base but all seven of their hits would be singles.

The Jets picked up a run in the opening frame off of an error that would have ended the inning.

After three scoreless innings, Newman would get an insurance run off of CU's second error with two outs in the away half of the fifth.   Cameron's only opportunity came in the bottom frame where they would load the bases with one out.  The Aggies picked up a run in off a wild pitch but the inning ended with a strike out and line out.

In the sixth, CU left a runner on off a walk and they would go down in order in the final inning.

Alyssa Osterdock (1-1) was charged with the loss, going 4 2/3 innings with two unearned runs; Emily Wasinger recorded the final seven outs and only gave up a hit.

Nikki Horton and Annie Combs both had two hits.

With the win over the Aggies (3-1) they will go to 1-1 for the season.

Cameron will return to the diamond on Saturday with two games starting at 10 a.m.
