Game Notes

First Tip: Cameron rallied back from a 23 point deficit to come within a point of Texas A&M-Commerce in the second half but were unable to surpass the Lions' lead as the Aggies would fall 94-77 at Commerce Wednesday night. The loss ended a four game streak by Cameron, but the Aggies retain their first place spot in the Lone Star Conference standings tied with West Texas A&M (6-3 LSC) for a half game lead over Tarleton State and Midwestern State.

Cameron had three in double figures with Deondre Ray leading the Aggies with 21 points. Cam eron Lee scored 17 and Jamaal Brantley was one back at 16 points. Brantley also grabbed a team high seven boards. JV Long led in assists with seven, and he contributed eight points.

LSC Championship Dogfight: Six teams are separated by one game in a first place juggernaut for the LSC regular season title.  The Aggies are tied with West Texas A&M with a half-game lead over Midwestern State and Tarleton State.  Texas A&M-Commerce and Angelo State are a full game back in the standings.  Both Cameron and WT have are ahead by one played LSC game and have five regular season contests to play; the rest of the league schools have six left on their schedule.

About Tarleton State: Since beginning the season ranked No. 2, the Texans have dropped to No. 22, possessing a 16-5 overall and 5-3 LSC record. TSU most recently defeated No. 11 Midwestern State on Wednesday, edging a 66-65 win over the Mustangs to tie for second in the LSC with MSU. Tarleton has four players averaging at least 10 points per game in EJ Reed (18.4), Charles Hill (13.4), Michael Hardge (11.0) and Malcolm Hamilton (10.6). Reed is second in the league in points per game and field goal percentage (59%), and fourth in rebounds (8.0 rpg). Leading in assists per game (4.9) is Hardge; he also is second in steals (1.7 spg). Xavier Smith is third in the LSC with blocks at 2.0 per game. The Texans are 1-2 on the road this season.

Last Time vs. Tarleton State: The charity stripe proved to be the difference in the Cameron men's 71-61 loss at Tarleton State earlier this season. Cameron shot 22-for-58 from the field and Tarleton State shot 22-for-51 with the Aggies edging the Texans 7 to 4 at the arc, but fouls plagued the Aggies as TSU would shoot 79% at the free throw line (23-29) over CU's 10-for-15 effort in the Texans' first conference win.

Cameron opened the game with a 7-0 start, however, the Aggies would experience a seven minute scoring drought following nine turnovers and six fouls as the Texans scored 14 consecutive points to lead 14-7. The Ags battled back with each team trading the lead twice, but TSU took the 31-28 edge at the break after going 14-for-18 at the line in a half where both sides shot an even 35% from the field. The Aggies scored on a layup and three-pointer to begin the second half with a two point advantage, but a TSU layup tied the game, and the Aggies would trail until the 5:31 marker where they took a 58-57 lead. However, the Texans responded by scoring 14 points in the final five minutes while holding CU to five to win 71-61.

CU vs. TSU Series: The Texans control the series 25-11 and have won the last five meetings in a row after Cameron won two in a row during the 2012-13 season.  However, the last two meetings in the Aggie Gym have been wire-to-wire battles with both meetings being decided by under three points.  Head Coach Nate Gamet is winless in his prior five meetings with Tarleton State.
