Cameron holds on to first place LSC with 73-57 win over Tarleton State

LAWTON– Cameron remains in first place in the Lone Star Conference after defeating Tarleton State 73-57 in the Aggie Gym Saturday evening.

The victory snaps a five game skid to Tarleton State with the Aggies' last win over the Texans dating back to the 2013 season where the Black and Gold won 53-51 in the Aggie Gym.

Cameron is now 14-8 overall and 7-3 in the Lone Star Conference.

Five Aggies were in double figures on the game: Deondre Ray (20 pts), Jamaal Brantley (19 pts), JV Long (13 pts), Tyler Williams (11 pts), and Cameron Lee (10 pts). Williams' 11 points is a career high for the true freshman. James Cross also had a career high two blocks against TSU, and JV Long contributed six assists.

Tarleton would have its largest lead of three at the 16:20 marker before the Aggies broke loose with a 7-0 run capitalizing on an over three minute Texan scoring drought to lead 13-7. However, TSU would cut Cameron's lead to one with a three-pointer from Chantz Chambers, but the Aggies once again went on a 12-2 run over five minutes to extend their lead to 12.
Cameron led 31-24 at the half after shooting 40.7% from the field (11-for-27). While both teams shot an even three treys, Cameron edged the Texans at the charity stripe in the first half, going 6-for-7 compared to TSU's 3-for-4 effort.

The momentum continued on Cameron's side in the second half as the Aggies held off the Texans with four treys and a nearly perfect 10-for-11 effort at the line to go with 14-for-23 (60.8%) from the field.

Tarleton State would score five straight at the charity stripe along with a layup to come within four points off an three minute Aggie scoring drought, but CU would step on the gas pedal to a game high 17 point lead and would expire time for the 73-57 victory.

Cameron edged the Texans in rebounding, grabbing 38 boards to TSU's 25. The Aggies also capitalized on ten Tarleton State turnovers for 14 points.

Michael Hardge led TSU with 15 points while Xavier Smith had two blocks.

The Aggies will remain at home for their next contest against Eastern New Mexico at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
