Aggies falter at Texas A&M-Kingsville

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M-Kingsville snapped a 10 game skid and swept Cameron 3-0 and 6-3 in a doubleheader on Saturday evening.  Prior the series opener in Kingsville, the Aggies have won their last 11 meetings with the Javelinas.

The losses for the Aggies will send them to 3-3 in Lone Star Conference play and 18-9 overall.  The doubleheader sweep will bring TAMUK to 8-13 overall and 2-8 in league action.

In the opener, Texas A&M-Kingsville struck first in the opening frame picking up a run off a single and a second an inning later off an unearned run.   In the fourth, the Aggies loaded the bases with two outs but they ended the inning with a strikeout before TAMUK picked up a one out RBI double in the bottom frame to go up 3-0.     Cameron posted a major threat in the seventh by loading the bases with one out however they would end the contest with back-to-back popups. 

The Aggies left 11 runners on base and was out hit five to six, they would strike out nine times.  Breezy McComas and Nikki Horton both had two hits.

Emily Wasinger (8-2) was charged with the loss giving up three runs (two earned), and six strikeouts.

In the night cap, the Aggies broke through on the scoreboard early with an Annie Combs RBI single and Paige Daino brought in two runs off a single to go up 3-0 in the opening frame.  However, in the bottom half of the inning, TAMUK wiped away the CU lead with four hits and three runs to tie the contest.

The Javelinas picked up more steam in the second inning capitalizing off of two CU errors and four hits to score three runs.   After the TAMUK outburst in the second, things settled down for both programs.   Only in the fifth inning, CU threatened with two on and two out but they would end the inning with a pop up.  Both teams went scoreless the rest of the way.

TAMUK out-hit the Aggies 11 to six with Sonora Zukerman (5-3) being charged with the loss.

McComas continued to have a hot bat with three of CU's hits. 

Cameron will return back to the field on Sunday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
