Aggies take doubleheader at Texas A&M-Kingsville

KINGSVILLE, Texas  -- Cameron salvaged a series split at Texas A&M-Kingsville winning game one 9-0 in five innings and won the nightcap off a seventh inning go-ahead run to win 6-4.

The wins snapped a minor three game skid to go to 20-9 overall and 5-3 in Lone Star Conference play.  Texas A&M-Kingsville will fall to 8-15 overall and 2-10 in league action.

In the first game, Cameron loaded the bases in the opening frame but missed an opportune chance to take an early lead after striking out back-to-back to end the inning.  It would take until the fourth inning for the Aggies to crack the scoreboard where they would load the bases with no outs.  Annie Combs, Paige Daino, and Abbey Warren all drew walks with the bases juiced; Breezy McComas knocked in a pair with a single.  Chelsea DeLong would later score two runs off of a TAMUK fielding error.

CU's scoring continued in the fifth with McComas doubling down the left field line to score Warren, and they later went up 9-0 off of a TAMUK fielding error.  The Aggies closed off the bottom half of the inning to run-rule the Javelinas.

Emily Wasinger (9-2) tossed a complete game, three hit shutout.  The Aggies collected ten hits with Sonora Zukerman having three and McComas hitting a pair with three RBI.

Texas A&M-Kingsville had five errors in the contest.

In the nightcap, the Aggies once again struck first with the bases loaded when Zukerman hit a ground out RBI, and Combs hit an infield single to go up 2-0.   Cameron added two more runs an inning later off a TAMUK error and a sac fly from Warren to get a four run lead.

Texas A&M-Kingsville responded back in the second by loading the bases with no-outs, a triple to right center cleared the runners, and a CU error allowed the tying run to reach home plate.

It wouldn't be until the seventh inning before the Aggies took the lead off a McComas RBI single and DeLong gave an insurance run off a single to put CU up 6-4.

Cameron closed the game off in the bottom of the seventh by putting TAMUK down in order.

Texas A&M-Kingsville out-hit the Aggies by two with eight hits, which matched their error total for the game.

McComas and Warren both had two runs for CU; Wasinger came out of the bullpen (10-2) to pitch the final five innings for the win.

The Aggies will return to the field for a four game LSC series with Eastern New Mexico starting on Friday at 1 p.m.
