Aggies take two over Greyhounds

LAWTON – Breezy McComas had two homers in a doubleheader sweep over Eastern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon; Cameron run-ruled the Greyhounds 10-0 in five innings in the opener and won 7-6 in a wild finish at McMahon Field.

With the sweep, the Aggies have now won four in a row and have climbed to 22-9 overall and 7-3 in Lone Star Conference play.  The losses send ENMU to 10-20 overall and 3-11 in league action.

In the opener, the Aggies loaded the bases with no outs and scored two off of walks before Chelsea DeLong doubled in two RBI to give Cameron a 4-0 lead in the first inning.  McComas hit her seventh homer of the season in the second to put CU up five and an inning later they would add three more.  McComas pushed the Aggies up ten with a two RBI double in the fourth; with the run-rule in effect the game ended in the fifth.

Cameron had eight hits, with McComas having three RBI, and she was a triple short of the cycle; Sonora Zukerman and DeLong both had two RBI in the one-way contest.

Emily Wasinger (11-2) needed only 67 pitches in the four-hit shutout.

Errors proved to a deciding factor in the nightcap with the Greyhounds. A misplayed tag at home plate by ENMU in the first inning allowed two CU runners to score with ENMU leaving the field thinking they turned a double play to end the inning; Cameron would get a third run off a DeLong single.

Cameron went up 4-0 in the second inning off of an Annie Combs RBI double before the Greyhounds opened the third with a solo homer.   In the fourth, McComas hit her second homer of the day to center field to score two and gave the Aggies a 6-1 lead.

However, ENMU rallied back in the fifth off of two CU errors to score a pair and make it a 6-3 ballgame.  After a scoreless sixth, the Greyhounds hit back-to-back homers with one out to trail by one, and following a ground out, ENMU hit a double that led to a RBI tying single to push the game into the home half of the seventh tied at six each.

The Aggies opened the seventh with an infield single by Zukerman and a sac bunt moved her over to scoring position.  A ground out moved Zukerman over to third with two outs, and a Carly Allerheiligen grounder to short wasn't fielded cleanly allowing for the winning run to reach home.

Eastern New Mexico out-hit the Aggies ten-to-seven with Zukerman and Abbey Warren both having a pair.

Zukerman started the game going four innings with one earned run given up, Alyssa Osterdock tossed the fifth, and Wasginer despite giving up three runs with seventh picked up the win to go to 12-2 this season.

Both teams will wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
