Live VideoGame NotesFirst Tip:Â The Aggies enter the Lone Star Conference tournament dropping their last three contests in a row and falling from a one game lead in the standings to the number-5 seed in the league tournament. Â In the three game skid, Cameron has not gotten much scoring help from their bench and has been outscored 65 to 19. Â Last time out against Midwestern State, Cameron shot a season low 18-for-60 from the field with senior
Jamaal Brantley shooting 5-for-22 from the field.
In league play, the Aggies are averaging 74 points per game and shooting 43% from the field. Brantley is second best in scoring when facing a LSC program picking up 17.4 points and fourth in rebounding at 7.3 per game. Â
JV Long has the best conference assist to turnover ratio at 2.3 and averaged the most minutes at 35.5 per game.Â
CU at the LSC Tournament:Â The 2016 Lone Star Conference Tournament will be the Aggies 12th trip and sixth in a row. Â In the tournament, Cameron has won four times and has not reached the finals. Â The Aggies reached the semifinals last season by upsetting Midwestern State 87-84 in overtime. Â Additionally, CU won opening round meetings in 1991 over Angelo State (64-54), in 1993 against Texas A&M-Commerce (76-72), and in 2012 vs. Incarnate Word (77-68 OT). Â Cameron's trip ties them for tenth most appearances with Howard Payne in LSC history.
About West Texas A&M:Â The Buffs will enter their contest with the Aggies winners of nine of their last 11 contests after opening LSC play dropping their first three in a row. Â WT's offense is paved through sophomore David Chavlovich who has already scored 1,078 points and is leading the LSC in scoring this season with 20.5 points per game. Â In the two contests this season against CU, he has averaged 22 points. Â In their 30 games this season, WT has made the ninth most three-point attempts in the nation and the fourth most free-throw attempts; they are also holding teams to 30.5% shooting at the arc which is a LSC best and 15th lowest nationally. Â
Last Time vs. WT:Â Cameron rallied back from 17 points in the second half and took a late lead but a six unanswered points by West Texas A&M in the final 26 seconds would be enough to overtake CU 83-78 in a heartbreaker in the team's last meeting in the Aggie Gym.Â
Five CU players would hit double-figures with
Jamaal Brantley scoring 17,
Deondre Ray had 15,
JV Long came up with 14,
James Cross netted 11, and
Cameron Lee put in 10. Â Cameron was out-rebounded 31-to-33 but only committed nine turnovers against the Buffs. Â Despite CU not giving up the ball much it was an Aggie turnover with five seconds to go with a three-point WT lead that sealed the game for the visiting squad from Canyon, Texas. Â The Buffs would steal the ball on the CU side of the court and picked up a layup at the buzzer to close out the night.
Ray and Cross led the Aggies with seven boards but as a team they continued their struggle from the arc by going 3-for-16.
CU vs. WT the Series:Â Cameron trails the overall series 30-14 and has split the home-and-home series during the regular season by winning on each other's court. Â Under Gamet, the Aggies are 3-3 overall. Â In the LSC tournament, Cameron has faced the Buffs four times with WT taking all postseason meetings.
