Softball drops doubleheader to #1 West Texas A&M

CANYON, Texas -- Top ranked West Texas A&M overpowered the Aggies taking both games of the doubleheader on Friday evening.  The contests both ended in the fifth inning with the Lady Buffs taking game one 9-1 and then winning the nightcap 11-1.
 
Cameron who had the second best batting average in the Lone Star Conference was out-hit by 16 with eight total hits in the combined games. 
 
Annie Combs' homer opening frame of in game one was the Aggies sole run of the contest.  WT scored two in the bottom half of the first off of an error and then came up four runs in the third scoring a pair off another CU defensive miscue.   In the fourth, the Lady Buffs tacked two more runs off a sac fly and a double to go up 7-1 before a two run shot the fifth ended the game with the run-rule.
 
Nikki Horton had two hits for the Aggies and Emily Wasinger (13-3) was charged with the loss.
 
In the nightcap, Cameron was never in the contest after the Lady Buffs poured on seven runs in the first and added two more in the second.  The Aggies lone run came off of Sonora Zukerman's 39th career shot in the fourth inning.   WT would add to their lead in the bottom half of the inning off of a RBI double and single.
 
Zukerman had two of Cameron's three hits of the game with Alyssa Osterdock (6-5) being issued the loss.
 
The losses send Cameron to 24-11 overall and 9-5 in league play; West Texas A&M climbs up to 35-1 and 17-1 in the LSC.
 
Cameron will wrap up the series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
