Aggie softball drops two at Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE, TX– The No. 22 Cameron softball team struggled against a hot Tarleton State as the Aggies fell 2-1 in game one of the doubleheader and 14-5 in a five inning run-rule night cap on Sunday.

In game one, the TexAnns scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the third on a two out 2 RBI double. The Aggies were able to bring in a run in the top of the fifth as Abbey Warren hit an RBI double to right center for a 2-1 game.

Cameron had a chance to tie in the top of the seventh with runners on the corners and one out, but the TexAnns threw out the tying run on a fielder's choice and a line out retired the side for the 2-1 TSU win.

The loss was charged to Emily Wasinger (15-6) who allowed six hits in six innings pitched.

Tarleton State continued momentum in game two with a six hit, seven run first inning. The TexAnns cycled through their lineup accounting for three doubles and a 3 RBI triple.

TSU led 12-0 into the fourth inning when the Aggies would get on the scoreboard with a pair of RBI singles and scored on an error unearned.

Cameron had two more runs in store in a late effort in the fifth inning as Sonora Zukerman hit an RBI double and the Aggies plated one more on a SAC fly, but it would not be enough as the game ended in five innings, 14-5.

The TexAnns out-hit the Aggies 17 to nine with Sonora Zukerman (8-5) getting the loss in the circle. Alyssa Osterdock pitched 3.1 innings. TSU's Haley Freyman (20-15) picked up her third win of the series against the Aggies, pitching the complete double header.

Cameron drops to 29-16 on the season and 14-10 in the Lone Star Conference while Tarleton State moves to 25-22 and 8-16 in the league.

The Aggies return to McMahon Field for a four game series with LSC rival Midwestern State beginning April 15-16.
