Softball falters at Angelo State

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Angelo State snapped a five game skid to Cameron with a doubleheader sweep on Friday. The Rambelles took game one, 8-3 and game two in an 11-8 contest.

ASU combined for 24 hits on the doubleheader to best Cameron's 15 total. Of the 15 hits, CU recorded five doubles and two home runs.

In game two, Chelsea Delong had perfect 3 for 3 night at the plate bringing in 4 runs off a double and home run.

The losses drop Cameron to 32-19 overall and 17-13 in the Lone Star Conference. Meanwhile, Angelo State advances to 34-19 and 16-14 in the league.

To start the double header, Cameron was first on the scoreboard as Jessie Ingrum blasted a leadoff solo homerun in the third inning. However, Angelo State would respond in the bottom frame to plate five runs off four hits.

ASU would further their advantage to 7-1 with a pair of RBI singles in the fourth before Cameron's Nikki Horton hit an RBI double to make it 7-2 in the fifth. Both teams would score on an RBI single, but CU would go down in order in the seventh for the 8-3 loss.

CU's starter Sonora Zukerman (10-6) was charged with the loss allowing 11 hits and six earned runs. Alyssa Osterdock made an appearance in the fifth inning. ASU combined for 12 hits with none going down on a strikeout.

In game two, Cameron struck first with a pair of singles to go up 3-0 in the opening frame. The Aggies furthered their advantage to 4-0 in the fourth inning, scoring unearned on a throwing error by the Rambelles' catcher.

The Aggies led 4-0 before a disastrous third inning allowed the Rambelles to plate nine runs. ASU scored three times off illegal pitches and an Aggie error allowed one more to cross the plate unearned to tie it at 4-4.

ASU would then hit a two run homer and later followed with a 3 RBI triple for the 9-4 lead.

Heading into the seventh inning, ASU led 11-4 as Cameron attempted a comeback. Zukerman hit a 2 RBI single and Chelsea Delong brought her home with a two run shot over center field to cut the Rambelles lead to 11-8. However, the next two batters went down on groundouts for the loss.

Emily Wasinger (16-8) recorded the loss for the Aggies. In 2.2 innings, she allowed five hits and 2 earned runs out of nine and walked four.

Cameron will resume action with Angelo State on Saturday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader start.
