LUBBOCK, Texas – Both teams lit up the scoreboard, but the Aggies would come out on top in a 14-10 non-conference win over No. 22 Lubbock Christian on Tuesday night.
Â
The Aggies (21-11) edged the Chaps (22-10) in hits by one, recording 12 on the game; two of which were doubles and two were home runs. Errors were split at three each.
Â
Cody Bower led the Aggies offensively, blasting two homers in a 4 for 6 night at the plate; Bower also batted in a team high three runs and crossed home four times himself.
Nate Hale went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI and had a stolen base.
Â
Lubbock Christian was the first to strike in the opening frame, scoring on a groundout, but the Aggies answered back in the second inning on an RBI double making it 1-1. The Chaps would gain the lead, plating two in the third inning, but CU responded with four runs in the fourth inning in a 5-3 score that began with a solo homer by Bower.
Â
A Lubbock Christian two run homer tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the fourth, but the Aggies kept momentum to manufacture five hits in an eight run inning in the top of the sixth for the 14-5 advantage. Bower highlighted with a two run homer himself and Hale also brought in two on a double to left center.
Â
The Chaps were not done and scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh, which included a 3 RBI home run, but it would not be enough to overtake the Aggies as both teams did not score again in the remaining two innings for the 14-10 Aggie win.
Â
Blake Welch (2-0) was credited with the win following five innings of work where he allowed seven hits and five runs.
Jackson Tetreault and
