Aggies fall to Angelo State in LSC elimination game

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Aggies could not secure a second win over Angelo State in the Lone Star Conference tournament to fall 9-5 in the elimination game on Friday night.

Previously, Cameron defeated the Rams 5-2 in the first round on Thursday evening, but ASU returned to the diamond with their bats hot to record 14 hits including three home runs over the Aggies' eight hits.

With four doubles, all but two Aggies recorded a hit on the game, but Cameron could not capitalize beyond a strong fourth inning.

Angelo State led 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning where Cameron had only one hit prior to an offensive spur, which allowed the Aggies to overtake the Rams 4-3.

Bronson Pulgados started the chain with a two run double and scored on a wild pitch himself. Russ Colgan followed up with an RBI single.

However, ASU would reclaim the lead in the sixth with two homers for five runs for the 8-4 advantage. Cameron only scored one more run in the seventh in a two error inning by the Rams, but it was not enough as ASU provided the 9-5 insurance run and held CU to a lone double in the bottom frame for the win.

Blake Welch (2-1) was charged with the loss on the mound after appearing in the fourth inning following starter Codey Upton to allow five hits and five runs in 2.1 innings pitched.

Angelo State advances to Saturday's final against West Texas A&M.

Cameron was eighth in the last NCAA South Central regional poll and will need to wait until Sunday at 9 p.m. to see if they climbed into the top six who advance into the tournament. The selection show will be aired live on NCAA.com which will announce the full national bracket.

If they aren't selected, the Aggies will see their season end with a 31-21 record, their first winning season since 2011, and first LSC tournament berth in five years.
