LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron women put together a fourth quarter comeback only for it to be stifled as the Aggies fell 77-64 to West Texas A&M on Saturday.
In a game that saw highly contested action in the opening half with eight ties and four lead changes, the Aggies trailed by just one point, 39-38, entering into the second.
But Cameron hit a rough patch halfway through the third quarter, as WTAMU took advantage of a nearly six minute Aggie scoring drought to score 12 unanswered points to stretch their lead to 57-42.
It was the Aggies' turn though in the fourth period as WTAMU allowed Cameron to score eleven unanswered points after experiencing an over four minute scoring drought themselves
During the drought, Cameron took advantage of nine turnovers to come within two possessions of the Lady Buffs until WTAMU's first score of the frame at the 5:43 minute marker.
However, the Lady Buffs would find their footing to bring their advantage back to 12 points with two minutes remaining and keep ahead of the Aggies to win 77-64. While the
Aggies outscored WTAMU 22-20 in the fourth quarter, the Aggies could not make up the deficit from their four point outing in the third frame.
Overall, Cameron shot 34 percent from the field, 30 percent from beyond the arc with seven made treys and 64 percent at the line.
Meanwhile, WTAMU went 48 percent on the floor, 30 percent from out deep and 58 percent from the charity stripe.
The Lady Buffs also won the rebounding battle 77-64.
Savanna James led the Aggies with 13 points and six rebounds.
Charron Montgomery and
Brittany Hill each tallied 12 points. Hill had an almost perfect shooting night, missing just one shot from the field, going 3-for-4 and making both three-point tries and all four free throw attempts to pair with two steals.
WTAMU's Lilley Vander Zee led the Lady Buffs with 17 points.
Following the loss, Cameron drops to 4-8 overall and 2-4 in the Lone Star Conference. West Texas A&M goes to 11-4 and 4-2 in the league.
