DENTON, Texas – The Aggie volleyball team closed out their four match road stretch with a three set loss to Texas Woman's on Tuesday night.
The two teams were evenly matched in set one, with each hitting over .250 on the attack. However, a late five point run gave TWU a three point edge that would help them get the 25-23 set win. They carried that momentum into the second set. After using another five point rally to go up 11-6, the Pioneers closed out the set with a 14-4 run, including six straight points to end the set 25-10; Texas Woman's hit almost .400 in set two, while CU hit in the negatives.
Down two sets to none, the Aggies started the third set on a 6-2 stretch before TWU rallied with six straight points. The two teams then went back and forth for a while and the match was tied at 17 points apiece after a Pioneer ball handling error. Another six point rally from Texas Woman's helped them build up a comfortable lead as they won the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
Ashleigh McFatridge led CU with eight kills and had three blocks, while
Paige Dixon added seven kills and
Brittany Lawson had six.
Brook Conley had a double-double with 19 assists and 13 digs, as
Brittnee Altic had 12 digs and Lawson had 10 for a double-double of her own.
The Pioneers got offensive production from multiple players, with Courtney Noel, Miri Shade, and Briley Cole-Lewis leading the way with nine kills each. Katy Ranes had 37 assists as TWU's setter, while Bailey French had 22 digs.
With the loss, the Aggies fall to 5-14 overall and 2-9 in Lone Star Conference play, and with the win Texas Woman's is now an even .500 with a 10-10 record and a 7-4 conference mark.
