LAWTON – Despite taking the first set in extra points, the Cameron volleyball team would drop the next three to fall 3-1 (24-26, 14-25, 23-25, 21-25) to West Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon.
Paige Dixon led the Aggie offense with 16 kills while
Brittany Lawson followed up with 10 paired with 18 digs for her second double-double match in a row and third total this season. Meanwhile,
Brook Conley secured her 13th double-double on 36 assists and 13 digs.
Brittnee Altic bested her career high number of digs by one as she recorded 32 total.
Brandy Carr had eight blocks of CU's 12.5 total, and
Amarachi Iwunze contributed six blocks.
WTAMU was led by Erin Clark with 21 kills and 17 digs, and Crystal Thomas with 13 kills.
In the first set CU was down 9-7 before going on a 7-1 run to grab a four point advantage. The Aggies held the lead at 21-17 before the Buffs responded with a 7-1 run of their own to arrive at set point. Cameron's offense powered back to deliver four straight kills for the 26-24 first set win in extra points.
CU's offense struggled in set two, posting a negative attack percentage while WTAMU pounded 17 kills and a match high .256 hitting clip to win 25-14. The third set saw 11 ties as both sides locked at 23-23 for a final time before the Buffs knocked down a kill and an Aggie error brought WT the 25-23 set three victory.
The Cameron offense could not find their footing again as they hit under .100 in the fourth set. Still, CU was just one behind at 22-21 until the Buffs got the set 25-21 and match victory on two kills and a service ace.
CU is now 6-15 and 3-10 in the Lone Star Conference. WTAMU is 15-10 and 8-6 in the league.
