Aggies sweep Crimson Storm on Dig Pink Night

LAWTON – Back in September Southern Nazrene swept the Aggies in their season opener, but Tuesday night Cameron returned the favor by taking three straight sets (25-17, 30-28, 25-13) against the Crimson Storm on Dig Pink Night.

Sporting pink uniforms in support of breast cancer awareness, the Aggies out-matched SNU to move to 7-15 on the season while extending the Crimson Storm's skid to four matches and an 11-14 record. The sweep was CU's second this year and first since Sept.12 when they hosted Science and Arts (Okla.).

Brittany Lawson, Brandy Carr and Paige Dixon combined for 27 kills as each knocked down nine. Carr also pitched in seven of the team's ten blocks. Setter Brook Conley got her fifth consecutive double-double and 14th overall this season on 33 assists and 15 digs. Brittnee Altic was also in the double digits with 12 digs of her own.

SNU's Bailee Turang led her squad with ten kills, Kylie Smith 31 assists and Hannah Davis 11 digs.

To open the match, an early eight point run gave the Aggies a solid advantage that was started by six straight SNU errors giving CU a 9-3 lead. Midway through, the Crimson Storm closed the gap to 18-16, but CU spurred five straight points off three kills and two blocks to reach 23-16. With one SNU kill interruption, the Aggies took the set 25-17 with a Lawson kill and Altic ace while posting a match best .370 attack percentage.

Set two featured a great comeback by the Aggies as they trailed 21-14 before chaining seven straight points to even the board at 21-all. The game entered extra points as the Aggies defended SNU off set point three times while reaching it twice themselves and for a final time off two straight Carr blocks. SNU then committed an error bringing CU the 30-28 victory.

The Aggies kept rolling in the third set, going on their longest run of 10 points to reach match point 24-12. Once again SNU snuck in a kill, but a service error would end the match bringing CU the 25-13 set win after the Crimson Storm hit below .100 in the final two sets with the Aggies posting 16 kills in each.

The Aggies will go on a three match road trip visiting Eastern and Western New Mexico and Texas A&M-Commerce.
