SILVER CITY, N.M. – For their second match in a row, Cameron volleyball was swept in straight sets on the road as they fell 3-0 (23-25, 12-25, 21-25) at Western New Mexico on Saturday night.
The loss brings the Aggies to 7-17 overall and 3-12 in the Lone Star Conference. WNMU is now 8-15 on the year and 8-7 in the LSC.
Paige Dixon led CU with nine kills and
Brandy Carr added seven.
Brook Conley recorded 27 assists while
Ashleigh McFatridge put down seven blocks.
Katrina Campbell had eight digs.
Kalie Lyle had a match high 13 kills for the Mustangs, and Kelli McGhiey followed up with eight kills.
Overall, the Mustangs outmatched the Aggies in kills 41-31, aces 4-2 and digs 39-31. CU had the blocking advantage 11-9.
In the first set, CU and WNMU were locked in a 22-22 tie before the Mustangs reached set point on a kill and block. The Aggies interrupted with a kill by Dixon but McGhiey got the set winning kill, 25-23.
Cameron barely reached double digits in set two as they struggled offensively hitting in the negative attack percentage falling 25-12.
The Black and Gold trailed 22-20 in the third set; however, Lyle had two kills in store with just one kill by Dixon in between before the match ended on an Aggie attack error 25-21.
Cameron concludes a three-match road trip on Tuesday as they visit Texas A&M-Commerce.
