LSC play opens for CU with Lions and Texans

Starting 5: 
1. Bryce Elie is averaging 19 points in CU's last three contests and is third in the Lone Star Conference with a .590 field goal percentage.
2. Against SWOSU, Zach Dumas missed just one shot from the field while scoring a team high 18 points. 
3. The Lion's head coach Jaret von Rosenberg is the first men's basketball coach in program history to go 5-0 to begin his tenure.
4. Tarleton State's Deshawn Riddick was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week this past week, recording six steals against St. Mary's.
5. Corinthian Ramsey is leading TSU and the LSC with 25.2 points per game; he is ranked eighth in the nation in scoring. 

About the Aggies: 
Cameron enters Lone Star Conference play at an even .500 on the year with three wins and three loses, with their last win coming a week ago in their home opener against Southwestern Oklahoma State. While the Black and Gold averages just under 80 points a game, they are statistically one of the best shooting teams in the LSC, hitting on 49 percent of their shots from the field and 40 percent of their three point attempts. They are also second in the league with 9.2 three point shots made per game. 

Individually, Bryce Elie has been the hot hand, leading the Aggies with 15.3 points per game, while shooting 59 percent from the field and grabbing 4.3 rebounds per contest. The senior transfer has hit double-digits in each of CU's first six outings. JV Long has continued to make his presence known as one of the top all-around guards in the league, averaging 10.5 points, five assists, 3.8 rebounds, and two steals. He had a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists against Dallas Baptist on November 21. Also averaging in double-figures are Tyus Momoh and CU's leading rebounder Tyler Williams. Another player who has emerged as a key contributer is Johann Tate. Tate leads the team with 14 threes made and is shooting from behind the arc at a 48 percent clip. 

Scouting the Lions: 
Texas A&M-Commerce is a perfect 5-0 going into Thursday's game, with wins against Oklahoma Christian, Newman, and Lubbock Christian, all of which the Aggies have played or will play during the 2017-18 season. They have been dominant on defense, holding opponents to just 62 points per game, which has them ranked 10th nationally. The Lions are also the top team in the conference in forcing turnovers, causing the opposition to give the ball up 18.6 times per game, while averaging 8.4 steals. 

Offensively, TAMUC is lead by Willie Rooks' 16.2 points per game. The junior is shooting over 43 percent from the field and has gone 12-27 from three point range. Reggie Reid is one of their top play-makers, scoring 14.6 points and recording a team-high 3.4 assists per contest. Reid is also ranked third in the league with 2.2 steals per game. Additionally, Dorian Armstrong is one of the top big men in the LSC, averaging 11.4 points and 9.8 rebounds, which has him tied for second in the conference statistical rankings. 

The Series vs. A&M-C:
- A&M-C leads 30-22.
- The two teams have an even 17-17 record in LSC games.
- Last Meeting: March 3, 2017 in Allen, Texas (54-52 A&M-C win)

Scouting the Texans: 
The Texans enter conference season with a 3-2 record and are coming off of a dominant 87-61 win over St. Mary's in their last contest. Josh Hawley led the war with 22 points and Corinthian Ramsey Chipped in 21. On the season, TSU is averaging almost 84 points per contest while shooting 43.3 percent from the field. They lead the LSC in three point shooting and shot defense. Tarleton is also first in the LSC and ninth nationally in blocks per game. 

Ramsey is leading the conference and eighth nationally with 25.2 points per game. He started out the season with two great performances where he scored 35 points against Metro State and 40 points against UC-Colorado Springs. Ramsey drained seven three point shots in each of those games. Sophomore Josh Hawley is averaging 17.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest. He also leads the LSC with an average of two blocks. 

The Series vs. TSU:
- TSU leads the series 27-10.
- Cameron has just one win out of the last eight meetings. 
- Last Meeting: January 26, 2017 in Lawton, Okla. (80-74 TSU win)

Looking Back:
Cameron hosted Southwestern Oklahoma State for their home opener on Saturday, Nov. 25. CU shot 44.6 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from the perimeter, and 72.2 percent from the free throw line. Zach Dumas led the Aggies while going 4-5 from the field and 7-10 from the charity stripe to score 18 points. Bryce Elie chipped in with 15 points while grabbing eight rebounds.

Looking Ahead:
The Aggies will continue their early season conference play next week as they visit Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State; CU faces the Javelinas on Thursday, Dec. 7 and the Rams on Saturday, Dec. 9.
