LUBBOCK, Texas –The Cameron men's basketball team suffered an 81-78 loss at Lubbock Christian ending a nine game series streak to the Chaps on Saturday.
The loss was the first to the Chaparrals since 1995 when CU lost a pair of games that year. Both teams are now 7-8 on the season.
Delano Jones led Cameron with a career high 20 points with six good three-pointers.
JV Long tallied 13 points, three steals and five assists.
Tyus Momoh rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points. Meanwhile
Jalen Nicholas had a team high eight rebounds.
LCU's Isaac Asrat had a game high 23 points among 4 double digit Chap scorers. Brennen Fowler earned a double-double on 10 boards and 12 points.
Cameron shot 39 percent on the floor compared to LCU's 53 percent from the field. The Aggies drained 11 three-pointers for the third time this season, while the Chaps made six. CU shot 17-for-23 from the line and LCU 23-for-34 at the stripe.
The Aggies kept within reach of LCU in the first half, finding their first lead of the game with seven minutes remaining of the first half by going on a 10-3 run.
The Chaps never let CU lead by more than three points and managed to catch back up by limiting the Ags to just three free throws in the final minutes to take a 41-35 advantage at halftime.
LCU came out of the break strong, working their lead to their largest of 14 points around the eight minute marker.
CU used a flurry of treys to get within two points of LCU in the game's final 30 seconds. With 7 seconds on the clock, Asrat went to the line making 1 of 2 making it a three point game.
However, CU missed their last chance three-pointer with two seconds remaining to fall 81-78.
Next Cameron continues their non-conference stretch traveling to Rogers State on Tuesday.
