ODESSA, Texas – The Aggie basketball team used a strong shooting game to upset the No. 13/19 ranked UT Permian Basin Falcons on the road, 90-87. The win improves CU to 15-10 overall and 8-7 in Lone Star Conference play.
 
The first 10 minutes of play was neck and neck with CU uses small runs five and six points to hold a three point lead at the 9:07 mark. The Aggies slowly built up their lead in the next six minutes of play, going up by nine with 3:16 left to play in the half. The two teams went back and forth in the final minutes of the first half and at the break Cameron found themselves up 44-34 at the break thanks to a last second old fashioned three point play from Jalen Nicholas.
 
The Aggies shot over 56 percent from the field in the first half, going 5-12 from the perimeter while hitting all three of their free throw attempts. They held the Falcons to just 30.8 percent from the field through the first 20 minutes, but UTPB did make 5-13 from three and converted 13 off their 16 free throw attempts.
 
JV Long led CU at the break with nine points and three assists, while Tyler Williams had eight points and Trey Hall had seven. Vinnie Abbondola led UT Permian Basin at the half with nine points on 3-4 shooting from long range.
 
The Aggies kept up their momentum to start the second half, stretching their lead to 20 points at the 15:59 mark. However, that is when UTPB made their move, as they used a 14-2 run to put the game at 62-54 with 13:33 left in the half. They slowly kept eating away at CU's lead and by the 4:13 mark, the Falcons were down by just four points. The two teams traded buckets back-and-forth through the final minutes of play with the margin hovering around 3-4 points. Clutch free throw shooting by the Aggies down the stretch helped them secure the 90-87.
 
Cameron finished the game with a 52.5 field goal percentage, while going 12-26 from the perimeter and 16-22 from the charity stripe. They got 25 points off of 23 UTPB turnovers and had 31 points from off the bench. Long finished with 21 points, going 8-13 from the field and 3-6 from three, and six assists, while Hall finished with 18 points, hitting 4-9 from long range. Williams chipped in 14 points and Momoh had 11.

UT Permian Basin (19-5, 10-4) had won nine straight before Saturday's loss. They shot 44.2 percent from the field, 44 percent from the perimeter, and converted on 30 of their 37 free throws. Daeshon Francis led the Falcons with 22 points, while Johnnie Lacy had 20 and Josh Morris had 17.

Cameron will finish out the regular season at home as they have three straight at the Aggie Gym. They will begin by hosting Western New Mexico on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
