Game Recap: Softball |

Pitching excels in doubleheader with Eagles

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Cameron University softball team split their doubleheader with Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday, winning 4-3 in game one and losing on a walk-off homer in the eighth inning in game two, 3-2.

The Aggies are now 16-4 on the season while Oklahoma Christian is 9-9.

In game one, CU fell behind early, giving up two runs in the first inning, but came back in their half of the third and tied the game at two runs apiece. The first of Cameron's runs came on a fielding error that allowed Annie Combs to score, and the second game when Paige Daino stole second and Bethany Hines came in to score as the OC shortstop dropped the ball.

After the Eagles took back the lead on a RBI single in the bottom of the third, the Aggies struck for another pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning. Tori Smith drove in Abbey Warren, who tripled in the second at bat of the inning to tie the game at three, and then Kaylyn Smith drove in T. Smith on a groundout to the third baseman to put Cameron on top again.

Both teams went scoreless in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, as CU came away with game one 4-3.

Hines earned her 11 win of the season as she pitched all 10 innings, giving up two earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts.

CU's offense was held to just 5 hits, as all but one of their runs was unearned.

Game two was another low scoring contest, as CU got their only runs of the game on a two run homer from Brenna Busby in the top of the second. After a scoreless third and fourth inning, the Eagles cut the Aggie lead in half with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, and then in the bottom of the seventh, Sheridan Bond singled and then advanced to third on an error with one out. A groundout to second in the next at bat drove her in and tied the game at two runs apiece, sending the game to an extra inning.

The Aggies were able to get two runners on base in the eighth, but failed to have a run cross the plate. In the bottom half of the inning, Nikki Davidson led off with a walk-off solo homer to give OC the 3-2 win.

Cameron again couldn't get the bats going, recording just four hits, three of which came in the first three innings.

Alyssa Osterdock got the loss and is now 5-3 on the season. She went seven innings, while giving up just one earned run on five hits.

CU will return to Lone Star Conference Play this weekend as they visit Texas A&M-Commerce for a three game series, March 3-4.
