CU Men’s hoops fall in close contest at A&M-Kingsville 58-56

KINGSVILLE, Texas – In a thrilling contest where neither side led by more than two possessions, the Cameron men's basketball team could not close out with a win as the Aggies fell 58-56 to Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday afternoon.

The Javelinas would outscore the Aggies 6-2 in the final two minutes, making the game winning jumper with five seconds remaining and thwarted CU's final three-point attempt.

Tyus Momoh led the Aggies with 17 points and went a perfect 6-for-6 at the line. Also scoring in double digits was Trey Hall 13 points and JV Long 10 points. Delvonte Pierre led at the boards with nine rebounds.

Both sides made an even 19 buckets from the field, but CU struggled from the perimeter shooting just 11 percent (2-for-17) while the Javelinas made five deep balls. Cameron did have an 84 percent free throw shooting night compared to TAMUK's 65 percent.

Cameron struggled early in the first half, never leading by more than two points but kept TAMUK within a two possessions. The Aggies missed all nine of their shots from beyond the arc and shot just 33 percent on the floor but went 14-for-16 at the stripe.

The game remained locked in a 28-28 tie at the halftime buzzer.

In the second half, CU improved to 50 percent from the field and was able to make two three-pointers, but was kept off the line to make just 2-for-3. That's where TAMUK took advantage going 8-for-11 at the stripe.

Cameron is now 14-9 and 7-6 in the Lone Star Conference. TAMUK moves to 14-7 and 7-5 in the league.
