Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Aggies’ second-half rally falls short at West Texas A&M

CANYON, Texas – The Cameron men's basketball team worked to overcome a double digit deficit in the second half but could not close out with a win as they fell 87-82 to West Texas A&M on Thursday evening.

The Aggies were within two points of the Buffs in the final minute, but a key WTAMU three-pointer would put a wedge in Cameron's comeback attempt as CU was only able to add two free throws which WTAMU matched to prevent the return.

Tyler Williams score a career high 21 points in the game making all three tries from the perimeter and went 8-for-9 from the perimeter. Tyus Momoh was also perfect from the arc making all four and tallied 16 point alongside seven assists and two steals.

Cameron held a mere 19 second lead in the first half which they would not regain until five minutes remained of the second. However, the Aggies did work to close the Buffs lead down to two possessions heading into the locker room trailing 38-34 trying to combat WTAMU's seven first half treys.

An 8-0 run in under a minute is what spurred the Aggies comeback attempt in the second half around the eight minute marker putting them back into a two possession contest. Four straight good free throws brought the Aggies their first second frame lead (74-73). But in the final minute, each point by the Aggies was matched by the Buffs for the 87-82 loss.

The free throw line proved key for the Buffs as they shot 28-for-35 from the line off 25 Cameron fouls. The Aggies went 14-for-19 at the stripe and shot 44 percent from the field and 37 percent from the arc. WTAMU shot 45 percent on the floor and 48 percent from downtown.

The Buffs (20-6, 8-5 LSC) also won the rebounding battle 39-35.

Cameron (14-10, 7-7 LSC) will continue on the road to take on UT Permian Basin on Saturday.
