CU softball concludes play in Durant, splitting their final day of the invite

DURANT, Okla. – The Cameron softball team concluded the Southeastern Regional Invitational with a 4-2 win over Emporia State in their first game of the day, before losing 9-1 in five innings to St. Mary's in the second game. CU went 3-3 during the invite, splitting games each of the last three days.

Game one started with Emporia State striking first with a run in the opening inning, Cameron responded quickly as Breezy McComas led off the bottom of the inning with a solo homerun.

After a scoreless second, Cameron added three more runs in the third, with two of them coming on a Callie Busby double, giving CU the 4-1 lead.

The Hornets would add one more run in the top of the fifth, but Bethany Hines locked it in and shut them out in the final two innings to get her second win of the season. Hines struck out six and walked just one in the seven inning game.

In game two against St. Mary's, the Aggies got their lone run of the game in the top of the first inning as Paige Daino hit solo homer to right centerfield.

Cameron's offense went cold the rest of the game, while the Rattlers struck for four runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth to get the 9-1 run-rule win.

CU was limited to just two hits and had four errors, which led to two runs for STMU.

The Aggies will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 7, as they host Southeastern for a home opening doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
