Osterdock's walk-off single in game two secures doubleheader sweep over Javelinas

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University softball team got a doubleheader sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday, beating them 9-2 in game one and then scoring six runs in the seventh inning of game two to get the walk-off 11-10 win.

In game one, the Aggies got on the board first as Kaylyn Smith and Abbey Warren scored on a dropped pop up by the TAMUK first baseman in the bottom of the second inning.

Cameron scored again in the fourth inning via a Warren RBI double that scored Breezy McComas.

Kingsville's only runs of the first game came in the top of the fifth, as Victoria Schoonard-Sabario homer to left field, cutting the CU lead to just one run. In the bottom of the inning, the Black and Gold struck for five runs, to extend their lead to 8-2. Paige Daino hit her eighth homer of the season and 40th of her career as she plated Callie Busby on the two run shot. A trio of RBI singles by Warren, Kaytlyn Kizarr and Brenna Busby gave CU their six run cushion.

The Aggies added one more insurance run in the sixth, before Bethany Hines finished off the game with a one-two-three seventh.

Game two started with both teams scored a single run in the first three innings. Cameron's came on a Kizarr RBI groundout in the second, while TAMUK got theirs on a bases loaded single off the pitcher's glove.

Cameron looked like they were going to pull away again as they scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth, as K. Smith drove in one on a RBI single and then Tori Smith drove in two on a single of her own.

However, the Javelinas matched CU in their half of the fifth, scoring three runs to tie the game at four scores a piece. In the bottom of the inning, the Aggies took back the lead on a Daino sacrifice fly.

After a scoreless sixth, Texas A&M-Kingsville's offense struck for six runs in the top of the seventh to take a 10-5 advantage. When it looked like it was all over for CU, the rally began. A leadoff walk and a pair of singles loaded the bases for the Ags. An out later, Warren walked in a run to cut the lead to 10-6. K. Smith then drove in a run on a fielder's choice and then a wild pitch allowed Daino to score, making it 10-8. After the second out was recorded, Hines walked and stole second to put runners on second and third for Alyssa Osterdock. After working the count to 2-2, Osterdock drove a ball over the pitchers head and into centerfield, allowing both runs to cross, giving Cameron the 11-10 win.

Warren, Daino, and Kizarr all had three RBI on the day, with K. Smith leading CU with four hits and four runs scored, the same amount as Warren. K. Smith also had three steals during the two games.

Hines received both wins, bringing her record to 19-5 on the season. She struck out four batters in nine innings pitched. Osterdock pitched the first five innings of game two, giving up just one earned run while striking out three.

The two wins improve CU's record to 25-11 overall and 13-4 in Lone Star Conference play; while the Javelinas are now 18-18 overall and 8-11 in league games.

Cameron and Texas A&M-Kingsville will concluded their three game series on Saturday, as they play one game beginning at 11 a.m.
