Aggies fall in a pair of 3-2 matches

DURANT, Okla. – The Cameron volleyball team battled in two five set matches on Saturday, but each time they came out on the losing end, falling 3-2 to Dallas Baptist and 3-2 to Ouachita Baptist on the final day of the South Central Classic.

Against the Patriots, the Aggies took control of the match in the first set, hitting over .360 on their attacks to take the first frame 25-18. Although, CU's efficiency on offense went down in the second set, they were still able to hold off DBU to win 25-23. However the momentum had shifted after the late comeback and DBU dominated set three 25-16 and held off Cameron's attack in set four (25-21) to force a fifth and final set.

The fifth set was close early, as the two teams switched sides of the court with the Black and Gold trailing by just two, 8-6. From their Dallas Baptist controlled the match, finishing the match on a 7-2 run to win the set 15-8.

Brook Conley recorded 52 assists for CU, the most by an Aggie setter since 2014, as she did a good job of setting up the offensive attack throughout the match. Ania Keene led the Ags with 18 kills, while Paige Dixon chipped in 16 and Ashleigh McFatridge added 11. McFatridge also had five blocks, as Dixon and Brandy Carr each had four and libero Brittnee Altic was tops on the Black and Gold with 26 digs.

In the nightcap against Ouachita Baptist, Cameron found themselves in another battle early as the first two sets were both close with the Tigers taking set one 25-20 and CU taking the second game 25-22. In set three, the Aggies looked dominant, closing out the set on a six point run to win 25-13 and take a 2-1 lead in the match. OBU responded with a dominant set of their own, forcing a fifth game with a 25-14 win while holding CU to just seven kills in the fourth frame.

The Tigers carried their momentum into the fifth by taking an 8-4 lead halfway through the final set. However, Cameron battled back to tie it on a Keene Kill. The two teams traded points before OBU scored three straight to take back the lead and finished off CU a point later 15-12.

Conley continued her strong play at the setter position by recording 43 assists in game two, giving her 95 on the day. Bristol Lewis led CU with 13 kills, while McFatridge and Dixon each had 12 and Keene had 11. Altic finished the game with 31 digs, while Conley chipped in 19 for her first double-double of the season.

The two loses on the final day of the South Central Classic move the Aggies to 1-3 after the first weekend of play.

Cameron will be back on the road on Friday, Sep. 8 as they play a pair of games in Ada, Okla. CU will play Henderson State at 3 p.m. and then will face the host, East Central at 7 p.m. that night.
