CU men fall in 70-67 heart breaker to Eastern New Mexico

LAWTON – Missed free throws in the final minutes made the difference in the Cameron men's basketball team's 70-67 loss to Eastern New Mexico on Thursday night.

Cameron missed six of their last free throws in a close second half where neither team led by more than two possessions.

With nine seconds remaining, ENMU made a layup for the eighth lead change of the half, which would prove to be the game winner as CU missed their final buckets and fouled on the rebound sending the Greyhounds to the line with .9 seconds remaining where they made both to seal the win.

While CU shot better on the floor 40 percent to ENMU's 37 percent, the Aggies went just 2 for 21 from beyond the arc, while the Greyhounds made 7 of 22. CU shot 56 percent at the line and ENMU 70 percent.

The Greyhounds also won the rebound battle 47 to 36.

Elish Benjamin led the Aggies with 15 points, and Tyler Williams added ten points. JV Long and Tyus Momoh each had four assists. Momoh led the team with seven boards.

Arcaim Lallemand led ENMU with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

In the first half, CU trailed by as much as 11 points partway through the half. The Aggies used a six point run down to two minutes left to get within one possession, but ENMU's Maurice Coleman added five points to put his team up 31-23 at the half.

The final half was tightly contested with six ties and eight lead changes. With 42 seconds left, Johann Tate drained a three-pointer breaking a tie and giving CU their largest lead 67-64.

Cameron would not make another bucket as the Greyhounds tacked on six points while the Aggies missed their last six free throws costing them the game as they fell 70-67.

Cameron is now 5-10 overall and 1-5 in the Lone Star Conference. ENMU is 6-8 and 1-4 in the league.
