Aggie men welcome the Mustangs to the Aggie Gym

Game Notes

Starting 5: 
1. The game against Western New Mexico was the first time the Aggies scored 100 or more points since 2015 when they put up 100 against Bacone. 
2.Cameron's 12 three pointers against WNMU was the most by CU this season, as Johann Tate and Delano Jones each had four three pointers and Jordan Lewis had three.
3. Zach Dumas had a season best 24 points the last time out as he went 8-13 from the field and 7-8 from the free throw line with three steals.
4. Midwestern State's Brandon Neel has scored 15 or more points in each of his last seven games. 
5. Neel and Devante Pullum are both ranked in the top-10 in the LSC  in steals with Pullum averaging 1.4 and Neel recording 1.3 per game.

About the Aggies: 
Cameron notched their second Lone Star Conference win of the season against Western New Mexico last time out and lost their sixth game of the season by less than five points two days before that against Eastern New Mexico. 

The Aggies are averaging 73.8 points per game while shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 34.4 percent from three point range. They are second in the LSC with 8.0 three pointers made per contest and are third in the league with a 1.01 assist/turnover ratio. CU is allowing 75.9 points to the opposition while they shoot almost 45 percent against the Ags.

JV Long leads the Black and Gold with 9.5 points, 4.0 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Tyus Momoh is averaging nine points and Tyler Williams and Delano Jones are scoring 8.9 points per contest. Jalen Nicholas leads CU with 4.7 rebounds per outing while Williams averages 4.6.

Scouting the Mustangs: 
MSU is 6-11 on the season and 3-5 in Lone Star Conference play after winning their last two games against Eastern and Western New Mexico. They handled the Mustangs with a 20 point win and then won by two points in overtime against the Greyhounds. Brandon Neel averaged 22 points over the two game span, scoring 21 points against WNMU and 23 against ENMU. 

Neel leads the Mustangs and is fourth in the Lone Star Conference with 18 points per game, while shooting 46.7 percent from the field. He has scored 10 or more points in all but three of MSU's games and has hit the 20 point mark six times including a 30 point effort early in the season. Additionally, Devante Pullum averages 12.9 points and Logan Hicks averages 11.6. Pullum leads the league in minutes played, while he and Neel rank in the top-10 in the league in steals. 

The Mustangs average a league best 8.5 steals per game while forcing 17.1 turnovers per contest, which is also an LSC best. On offense, they are averaging 80.9 points per game while shooting 43.1 percent from the field, 34.3 percent from the perimeter, and 73.9 percent from the charity stripe. On defense, MSU's allows the opposition to score 84.9 points while shooting almost 48 percent from the field and 39 percent from three point range.  

Last time vs. MSU: 
The last time the Aggies and Mustangs met up was in the regular season finale last season. Cameron dominated the matchup, shooting over 54 percent from the field, 48 percent from the perimeter, and going 17-21 from the free throw line.  JV Long was two rebounds and two assists shy of a triple-double while scoring 20 points on 6-7 shooting from the field and 7-7 from the free throw line. Tyus Momoh chipped in 12 points, four assists, and four rebounds while MSU's leading scorer this season, Brandon Neel, was held to just eight points on 4-15 shooting.  

The Series:
- MSU leads the series 47-27.
- The Aggies are 20-15 against the Mustangs in the Aggie Gym.
- Last Meeting: February 21, 2017 in Lawton, Okla. (91-64 CU win).

Looking back:
The Aggies split their week last week, falling to Eastern New Mexico 70-67 and then defeating Western New Mexico 101-79 for their second Lone Star Conference win of the season.

CU trailed ENMU by eight points at halftime, but responded with a 44 point second half. They missed 50 percent of their free throws down the stretch and went just 2-21 from the perimeter, resulting in the three point loss. Elish Benjamin came off the bench and scored a team-high 15 points, going 6-9 from the field. 

Against WNMU, Cameron trailed by two points at the break and bounced back with a 55-31 second half. They shot over 50 percent from the field for the first time since the third game of the season. Five Aggies scored in double-figures with Zach Dumas leading the way with 24 points. 

Looking ahead:
Cameron will have over a week off after their game with Midwestern State before the return to the court. They will head south to face Tarleton State on Thursday, Jan. 25 and then battle Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday, Jan. 27.
