Long's season best 20 points leads CU to 76-62 win over MSU

LAWTON – JV Long led Cameron with a season high 20 points as the Aggie men defeated Midwestern State 76-62 on Tuesday evening.

The Aggies disarmed the Mustangs in the second half with solid shooting from out deep, connecting on 6 of 9 three-pointers after making just 2 of 14 in the first half. CU improved overall shooting as well, improving from 30 percent in the opening half to 51 percent in the final half.

The Mustangs were able to nab a 32-26 lead at the break after taking a 14-7 run over the Aggies in the final five minutes of the half with MSU's Logan Hicks scoring nine of those points. MSU stayed opposite of CU from beyond the arc, making six treys in the first half but just two in the second.

Cameron worked to chip down a four possession deficit in the second half. They did just that around the 12 minute marker as the Aggies hit a flurry of treys, three straight, en route to an 11 point run that gave them their first lead of the second half, 46-44.

The Aggies continued to stay hot from out deep, making three over the next two minutes, with Long coming through in the two minutes after that for 11 points of his own, putting CU up 70-57 for their largest lead of the game.

From there CU only allowed five points from MSU's Devante Pullum as they pulled closer to their 76-62 victory.

Three other Aggies joined Long in double digits as Elish Benjamin and Johann Tate added 12 points each and Tyler Williams had 11 points. Tate and Chris Royal each recorded a pair of steals. Williams had a team high five assists and nine rebounds.

MSU's Pullum led his squad with 19 points.

The win brings Cameron to 7-11 overall and 3-6 in Lone Star Conference play. MSU is now 6-12 and 3-6 in the league.
