CU men to compete in UAFS Holiday Classic

LAWTON, Okla. -- The Aggie men's basketball game will have one more test before the Christmas break, as they compete in the Arkansas Fort Smith Holiday Classic, where they will face UAFS for a rematch on Tuesday and then take on Rogers State on Wednesday.

Starting 5: 
1. The Aggies totaled a season best 13 steals in their 88-77 win over Lubbock Christian on Saturday. 
2. Zach Dumas and Tyus Momoh combined for 34 points and 10 steals in the win over LCU, with 28 of those points coming during the team's second half comeback. 
3. Four UAFS players are averaging in double-figures, with Chris Crawford leading the way with 16.8 points per game. 
4. Sophomore Brewster Peacock had a career-best 25 points and 10 rebounds in a 78-65 win over Randall last Friday.
5. The Hillcats have two wins against teams that have defeated this season, a 100-85 win over Southwestern Oklahoma and a 70-69 win over UAFS. 

About the Aggies: 
Cameron is now 3-6 on the season after their comeback win over Lubbock Christian last Saturday, which snapped a four game losing skid. All three of CU's wins have come in the comfort of the Aggie Gym, while in true road contests, they are 0-4. 

The Aggies are being outscored by their opposition by just two points, scoring 81.3 per game. They are shooting 41.8 percent from the floor, but hit on 37.7 percent of their shots from the perimeter and 73.9 percent from the foul line. CU also has a -1.4 rebounding margin and a 3.1 turnover margin. Defensively, they average 9.0 steals and 1.6 bocks per outing, and the opposition is shooting 47.3 against them. 

Dumas leads the Black and Gold with 19.6 points per, shooting 43.3 percent from the floor and going 60-78 from the charity stripe. The senior not only leads the Lone Star in scoring but also in steals with 2.2 per outing. Tyus Momoh is second on the team with 12.4 points per game, while also averaging 4.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 2.0 steals as an all-around guard. Additionally, Johann Tate scores 11.3 points per game and is shooting 87.5 percent from the free throw line. 

Scouting the Lions: 
Since their win in Lawton, the Arkansas-Fort Smith has lost three straight, including two Heartland Conference losses to Rogers State and Lubbock Christian. They are now 4-7 overall this season, with a 2-4 home win-loss record. Most recently they fell at home to Arkansas-Monticello 69-59; Chris Crawford and Tyler Williams combined for 28 points in the loss. 

The Lions average 74.1 points per game, just 0.1 points more than their opponents. They are also shooting 42.3 percent from the floor, 37.7 percent from the perimeter, and 74.4 percent from the free throw line. UAFS has a rebounding margin of -4.7 and a turnover margin of -0.5, while averaging 6.8 steals and 4.4 blocks per game on defense. 

Individually, Crawford leads the team in scoring (16.8 ppg) and assists (3.9 apg), while David Ward leads the squad with 6.1 rebounds per game and Matt Morgan averages 5.7 boards and 2.2 blocks. Additionally, Seth Hawley averages 13.2 points, Ward averages 11.5 and Tyler Williams chips in 10.8 points per game. 

Nov. 27 Against UAFS: 
When the Lions visited Lawton last month, they used a 53.4 shooting percentage to earn the 83-75 win. Hawley led the team with 23 points, going 4-7 from three, while Morgan chipped in 17 points, seven rebounds, and four blocks. On the other side of the court, the Aggies shot just 34.3 percent from the floor and 28.6 percent from three, while 21 of their 75 points came from the free throw line. Dumas scored 20 points for the Black and Gold, while Chris Royal had 12 points and Andrew Nguyen added 10. 

Scouting the Hillcats: 
Rogers State enters the UAFS Holiday Classic with a 7-3 overall record and a 1-0 Heartland Conference mark. They have won five out of their last six ball games, most recently beating Randall 78-65 at home. While Brewster led the team with 25 points and 10 rebounds, Tate Turner chipped in 13 points and Latrell Stidwell added 12 boards. 

The Hillcats score 75.4 points per contest, shooting 44.3 percent from the field, 33.2 percent from the perimeter, and 76.7 percent from the foul line. Defensively, they are giving up 71.9 points to their opponents, who are shooting 43.8 percent against them. RSU also averages 33.6 rebounds, 12.7 assists, 7.5 steals, and 1.6 blocks per outing.

Turner currently leads the team with 11.6 points per game, while shooting 43.6 percent from the field and 89.7 percent from the charity stripe. Saint Hilaire is second on the team with 10.3 points per game and leads the squad with an average of 5.7 rebounds. Additionally, Peacock and Tavian Davis both average over 9.5 points, while Davis leads the team with 36 total assists and 18 steals. 

The Series vs. RSU:
Rogers State owns a 3-1 all-time series lead over the Aggies. Their lone loss came in 2016 in Lawton, 78-68. Last season, the Hillcats used a 57 point first half and went 12-25 from three to earn the 88-72 win; Momoh led CU with 19 points and seven rebounds and Dumas added 14 points, while Brewster Peacock is the top returning scorer for RSU as he had 15 in the win.  

Up Next:
Cameron will end 2018 with a rematch against Dallas Baptist on Dec. 29 in Dallas, Texas. Earlier this season, the Aggies beat DBU at home 79-78; Dumas led the Black and Gold with a career-high 28 points, scoring 26 during the second half.
