LAWTON –
Tyler Williams scored a career high 22 points in the Cameron men's 87-81 loss to Angelo State on Thursday evening.
Williams bested his previous career high of 21 points he set on February 9, 2017 at West Texas A&M.
Tyus Momoh, 17 points, and
Elish Benjamin, 13 points, joined him in double figures.
Jalen Nicholas recorded 13 rebounds.
Cameron started the game hot scoring 13 unanswered points to take an 11 point advantage. During that run
Tyler Williams scored seven points in a row, finishing with a trey following a missed ASU dunk.
However, ASU took a 13 point run themselves in the final portion of the first half to grab their first lead, 31-30, since the game's opening minutes by taking advantage of a four minute CU drought.
Cameron managed to retake the lead in the final four minutes to take a 40-38 advantage into the break after shooting 45 percent on the floor, with four treys and made 4 of 5 at the line.
ASU shot 40 percent from the field, 18 percent from the arc and 72 percent from the stripe.
CU started the second half with runs of nine and seven to retake a couple of double digit leads taking advantage at the stripe.
But just like the first half, ASU staged a comeback and overcame a 14 point deficit by making six treys during a stretch where Cameron committed seven turnovers. They totaled eight three-pointers during the half.
CU struggled shooting and fell back to just 37 percent on the floor.
At the 1:43 marker, the Rams made a three-pointer giving them the lead, and Ja'Michael Brown closed out the game for his team with six free throws for the 87-81 win.
Davion Cole-Johnson led the Rams with 16 points.
The Aggies are now 8-13 and 4-8 in the Lone Star Conference while ASU is 16-5 and 7-4 in the league.
