Aggies fall to California-Pennsylvania, 9-6

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Aggie softball team lost their final game of the St. Mary's College Classic on Sunday as they fell to California-Pennsylvania, 9-6.

Cameron led off the game with a four run first inning to get off to a strong start. Kaitlyn Alvarado led things off with a one out single and then Callie Busby walked to put runners at first and second for Madyson Marvulli. The Aggie first basemen then drove in her high school teammate Alvarado on a single go right center. In the next at bat Annie Combs hit a three run homer to put the Aggies up by four.

The Vulcans got two back in the second and then one in the third to cut the cu lead to just one run. They then scored six runs behind a pair of two run homers in the fourth to take an 9-4 lead over the Aggies.

Cameron cut into the lead with two runs in the sixth, one on an Alvarado RBI single and another on a sacrifice fly by Callie Busby. But that's all they would get as the Vulcans closed out the game with three straight outs in the seventh.

Alvarado led CU with a 3-3 day while Combs had three RBI all coming on her homerun in the first.

Rylee Willmon received the loss after giving up six earned runs on 11 hits in four innings of work; she had four strikeouts.

Cameron is now 8-3 on the season after their first two weekends of the season.

Next up for the Aggies will be when they host Texas Woman's for their home opener series on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16-17.
