Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

McNair scores 21 as CU falls to Eastern New Mexico

PORTALES, N.M. – Parfitt McNair had a game-high 21 points, but the Aggie women's basketball team fell on Saturday to Eastern New Mexico, 65-57.

Cameron struggled to get going offensively, shooting just 32.8 percent from the field and going 7-23 from the perimeter. They trailed by just one point after the first quarter, but were outscored 13-7 in the third quarter. In the first half alone, the Black and Gold made just eight of their 28 shots and got to the free throw line only three times. McNair had eight points at the break while Ava Battese had five.

The Aggies bounced back by going 5-12 from three and 8-11 from the free throw line in the second half. After being down eight at the end of the third quarter, Cameron was able to cut the lead down to four by using a 9-5 run four minutes into the final quarter of play. However, that would be as close as CU would get as the Greyhounds made 11 of their 14 free throw attempts down the stretch to secure the win.

McNair went 7-15 from the field and 5-7 from the free throw line while also hitting two three point shot to reach her fourth 20 point game of the season. Battese was also in double-figures for Cameron, scoring 14 points while grabbing a team best nine rebounds.

Shelby Jones came off the bench to lead ENMU with 17 points, while going 7-8 from the charity stripe. Mikaehla Connor chipped in 14 points, while Daeshi McCants recorded a 13 point, 11 rebound double-double. As a team, the Greyhounds went to the line 30 times and knocked down 23 of their attempts.

The loss puts the Aggies at 11-15 overall and more importantly 9-9 in Lone Star Conference play, which is a half game behind Midwestern State for sixth place in the league standings. Eastern New Mexico is now 16-9 overall and 12-6 in conference games, and is currently in fourth place in the LSC standings.

Cameron has just two more games left on the regular season docket for 2018. They will travel to Midwestern State on Tuesday, Feb. 20 and then will conclude the final week of play at Texas Woman's on Thursday, Feb. 22.
