The Aggie men swept their first conference road trip of the season as they took down Western New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico this past week.Â
JV Long scored a career-high 25 points as they Aggie men's basketball team overcame a WNMU comeback attempt to win on the road on Thursday night, 82-78. Long, who fouled out late in the game, was on fire from the field, going 10-13 while hitting five out of his six free throw attempts; his previous game-high was 23 points against West Texas A&M back in 2015. He also grabbed six rebounds and had five assists in the winning effort. Joining Long in double-figures for the Black and Gold were
Elish Benjamin with 13 points and Momoh and Dumas, who each had 10 points. Additionally, Benjamin was one rebound shy of a double-double while
Tyler Williams also had nine rebounds. As a team the Aggies shot over 51 percent from the field, going 7-17 from three and 13-19 from the free throw line. For the Mustangs, Willie McCray led the way with 24 points, while Haneef Vaughn-Wilson had 17 points and CJ Vanbeekum had 13, hitting 3-4 from deep.
Long and
Delano Jones powered the Aggie men's basketball team's second half comeback as they took down Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, 60-58. Cameron outscored the Greyhounds 35-29 in the second half, with 28 of those points coming from the hot hands of Long and Jones. Long finished with a game-high 17 points, with 15 of those coming in the second half alone; he also tied for the team lead with
Tyler Williams with rebounds. Jones scored 16 points in the game, scoring 13 of those in the second 20 minutes of play. Lamarquis Thompson led ENMU with 15 points and nine rebounds, as Zach Parker had 11 points in the loss.
Looking ahead:
Cameron recently locked in their spot in the Lone Star Conference Tournament. They will play on Friday, March 2 for the first round of the league championship. CU's opponent and time of game is still yet to be determined. They are currently in sixth in the conference standings, which, if things hold up, would mean they play the three seed, who is currently the Tarleton State Texans.Â
