CU drops a pair on final day of regular season

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Aggie softball team finished off the regular season with a pair of loses in a doubleheader against No. 6 Angelo State on Saturday, 7-1 and 10-0.

After Cameron opened up the series with a 2-1 upset win on Friday night, Saturday's doubleheader was all Belles from the start.

ASU started game one with a two run first inning, and then after the Aggies scored their only run of the day on a ground-rule double from Callie Busby, the home team scored two more in third, and single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

Morgan Hill earned her 21st win for the Rambelles, striking out seven CU hitters and giving up just four hits in the 7-1 win. The win also clinched the Lone Star Conference Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 seed for the league tournament for Angelo State.

Alyssa Osterdock started and got the loss, going the first three innings and giving up four earned runs on five hits. Bethany Hines pitched the final three innings, striking out four while giving up three runs on three hits.

In the second game, Angelo State scored a run in the second inning and then struck for a nine run fourth inning to earn the run-rule victory in five innings.

The Aggies were held to just four hits again as reigning LSC Pitcher of the Week Brandy Marlett recorded her 22nd win with four Ks in her five innings in the circle.

Kaitlyn Alvarado made her first collegiate start for CU, going the first 3.2 innings. She gave up eight earned runs on 12 hits, while Osterdock recorded the final out after giving up a run on a pair of hits in the fourth.

C. Busby and Makaylah Ramirez led CU at the plate as they combined for four of the Ags' eight hits, with Busby recording two in game one and Ramirez getting two in the second game.

Cameron ends the regular season at 30-17 overall and 17-13 in league play. They are projected to be the fifth seed in the LSC Tournament and will play the four seed Tarleton State in the opening round on Friday, May 4 at 1:30 p.m. in San Angelo, Texas.
