LAWTON, Okla. -- The Cameron University volleyball team fell to No. 19 Tarleton State in three sets on Friday night, losing 25-10, 25-16, 25-15.
The Black and Gold hit just -.108 on the attack, recording just 15 kills, compared to Tarleton State's 35 kills and .162 hitting percentage. TSU also held the advantage with five aces to CU's none and 11 blocks to the Aggies seven.
Brittany Lawson,
Paige Dixon, and
Brandy Carr led the team with four kills each, while Carr and
Jazmin Luster had a team-high four blocks, and
Brittnee Altic had 13 digs.
In the first set, Cameron was able to take a 3-2 lead early thanks to a 3-0 run, but TSU responded with seven straight points to take a 9-3 advantage. The two teams traded points back and forth until the TexAnns used a 12-2 stretch to win set one 25-10.
CU was able to stay with Tarleton throughout the first half of the second set, as a kill from
Ashleigh McFatridge cut the TSU lead to 10-7. That's when the opposition started to break away, using a 7-1 run to build up their lead to nine. The Aggies fought back with back-to-back points to within six point at 20-14, but the TexAnns held them off to win the set 25-16.
The Aggies kept set three three close early, but the fire power of Tarleton State as they used a 10-1 rally to get to set point at 24-11. Cameron answered with four straight of their own, as a kill by
Shantalle Demirjian and a block by Luster cut the score to 24-15. TSU closed out the match on a kill, winning set three 25-15.
Amber Strange led Tarleton with 10 kills, while Hannah McManus had seven blocks and Kayla Brannon and Blanca Izquirdo combined for 29 assists.
Cameron is now 2-15 on the season and 0-7 in Lone Star Conference play, while the LSC leading TexAnns are now 7-0 in league play and 15-2 overall.
The Aggies will return to the Aggie Gym on Saturday to face Angelo State, who beat Midwestern State on Friday night, at 2 p.m.
