LAWTON, Okla. – Senior
Tyus Momoh hit a three-point dagger to give the Aggies a 71-70 advantage with 1.9 ticks left on the clock to take down MSU Texas on Tuesday night.
Â
In the first half, the Cameron Aggies got off to a 12-2 start by blitzing in their first four three point attempts. That hot shooting start caused the Mustangs head coach to get off the bench early with a timeout before 2 minutes had passed.
Â
It took until the Aggies sixth three point attempt to finally miss, and by that time the team had already built a 22-4 lead with 13 minutes left in the half.
Â
The Mustangs would not go down in this chapter of the rivalry without a fight. They went on a 21-13 scoring run from that 13 minute benchmark to end the half and pull within single digits heading into the break (35-28).
Â
Cameron finished the half shooting 6-of-15 from beyond the arc after their scorching hot start. Momoh led the Aggies in scoring in the first half with eight points, tied with
Kendall Scott who also turned in eight points in the half.
Â
Midwestern State came out of the break with all the momentum, taking their first lead with 18 minutes to go in the second half, going up by one after trailing at one point by 18 points. They saw their lead get to as many as 12 points in the second half, but the Black and Gold would not go away.
Â
The Aggies pulled within three with two minutes to go in the game thanks to a huge three from
Zach Dumas who finished with eight points. With two seconds left, Momoh drilled the game winning three pointer to cap a 16-3 scoring run by CU. He finished with a game-high scoring total of 17 points.
Â
The Aggies were able to go up by 19 points and come back from down 12 points all in the same game, putting the teams' resiliency on display. CU saw a trio of players reach double figures, including Momoh and
Jordan Lewis and
Jalen Nicholas posted 14 and 11 points respectively.
Â
Cameron is now 6-11 with a 2-5 conference record on the season. They will have a nine day break before their next game, a trip to Angelo State on Jan. 24.
