SAN ANGELO, Texas – Brock Schreiner notched a career high 22 points as they Aggie men's basketball team held on for a big 68-62 win over Angelo State on Thursday night.

After trading buckets, Angelo State went on a run of their own two cut the lead down to two, but CU jumped back up by seven thanks to a three pointer from Tyus Momoh at the 8:32 mark. From there the Aggies went cold.

Schreiner answered an ASU layup with one of his own at the 7:31 mark, but that would be CU's last FG of the first half. Cameron went on an almost six minute scoring drought that was halted by a pair of Momoh layups with 1:19 to play in the frame. That allowed the home team to jump back ahead by three, 29-26, heading into the break.

Despite their fast start, Cameron shot just 29.4 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from the perimeter during the first 20 minutes of play. The Rams shot almost 10 percent better than their opponents, but went just 1-9 from the perimeter; they also controlled the glass 22-15.

Cameron used a 14-2 run to start the second half to give them a 44-35 lead with 13:41 to play, forcing ASU to call a timeout. That timeout allowed the Ram defense to regroup and force CU into another scoring drought that allowed the home team to get back to within four. However, Schreiner knocked down a couple of threes in the next couple of minutes to put the Aggies back up by nine with 5:04 on the clock.

Angelo State would not go away, keeping the deficit around six by answering each CU score with one of their own. They even got to within three twice, once at the 1:09 mark and another time with 34 ticks on the clock. Unlike their opposition, Cameron was clutch with their free throw shooting down the stretch, going a perfect 8-8 in the final minute to secure the 68-62 win.

Schreiner's 22 points came on an efficient 7-10 shooting from the field, 4-5 from three, and 4-6 from the foul line. Jordan Lewis chipped in 17 points while hitting all six of his free throw attempts, and Jalen Nicholas added 15 points and six rebounds while going a perfect 5-5 from the foul line. Momoh finished with eight points, six rebounds, and five assists.
