ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Cameron women's tennis team opened up their spring season Friday with a 4-0 exhibition loss to Division I UT San Antonio.
Friday's match was the first of three exhibitions that the Aggies will play this weekend against DI opponents. Hosted by the University of New Mexico, the round robin will consist of CU, UTSA, the Lobos, and Abilene Christian.
Against the Roadrunners, Cameron was down 1-0 early after a pair of losses in doubles play.
Zhenia Shviadok and
Alisa Savina lost 6-2 in the No. 1 doubles spot, while
Sarah Frendo and
Pilar Jaurena lost 6-2 at the No. 3 spot.
Sara Petric and
Rebeka Velasova where leading their opponents 4-3 before the doubles portion of the match was called because the two UTSA wins.
In singles, the UT San Antonio made quick work of the Black and Gold winning decisively in the No. 1, 3, and 6 matches. Shviadok fell 6-2, 6-2 to UTSA's top singles player, while Velasova fell 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 and Opolz lost 6-1, 6-2 in the sixth spot.
All three of the other singles matches where 1-0 in favor of UTSA, but Frendo was leading 5-4 in the second set and Petric was tied 5-5 when the match was called.
Next up for CU will be a battle with the host school New Mexico, Saturday at 1 p.m.
