LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggie volleyball team was forced to a fifth set for the second time this week, but unlike Tuesday's win over East Central, CU dropped Saturday's Lone Star Conference division match to UT Tyler, 3-2.
Cameron played four strong sets, hitting over .250 in all but the fourth, giving them a .246 attack percentage for the match. CU also totaled nine blocks and six service aces in the loss, compared to UTT's eight blocks and five aces.
Walia Franklin led the Aggies in kills for the second straight match, totaling 16 while hitting right at .200. She also had five blocks to give her 19 points in the five-set loss.
Sarah Wright recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs while also adding two aces on the afternoon.
Arianna Navarrete was also in double-digit in the kill column with 11, while
Maya Hill added nine kills and hit over .430 on the attack with four blocks.

Katherine Manning (26) and
Desiree Marmolejo (25) combined for 51 assists in the match with Marmolejo adding a double-double of her own with 17 digs, which was the same amount as CU's libero
Peyton Little.
In set one, the Black and Gold took a 15-8 lead thanks to a 10-3 run capped by a block from Wright and Hill. After UTT stopped the run with a kill, CU rattled off three more to go up 18-9. The Patriots caught fire and got back into the set by cutting the Aggie advantage to just three at 22-19. However, CU was able to close out the set on a 3-1 run thanks to a pair of Kills from
Shantalle Demirjian and one by
Riana Blount.
Set two was back and forth and each time UT Tyler would make a run, CU would answer. After a late 3-0 run gave UTT a 21-16 lead, CU got back to within three at 23-20 thanks to a pair of kills from Wright. The teams traded points in the next three plays and UTT evened the match with a 25-21 set win.
Cameron responded by taking the lead early in the third and holding it through most of the set. UTT tied the frame at 21 on a service ace, but CU answered with three straight to reach set-point at 24-21. Two plays later, Navarrete ended gave her team their 25th point to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the fourth, the Black and Gold came out firing taking an early 11-5 advantage. The Patriots then scored seven straight to take a 12-11 lead. After trading points that set the score at 15-all, UTT went on another big run, scoring eight in a row to go up 23-15. CU cut into that lead with five straight, but was unable to make it all the way back, falling 25-20 in set four.
The final set was tight from the start, with CU answering a 4-1 start by the Patriots with a 3-0 run to tie the frame at four. A 4-2 swing in favor of UTT had the teams switching sides with the away team holding an 8-6 advantage. CU answered with a kill by Wright, but UTT came right back with a 5-1 stretch to go up 13-9. Cameron was back to within three points at 14-11, via three kills by franklin in a 3-1 rally, but UTT responded with a kill of their own to finish off the match.
Cameron is now 5-12 on the year, 1-7 against LSC opponents and 1-5 against the division. They will host Northwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday, Oct. 15, for the final match of the homestand.
