EDMOND, Okla. – The Cameron women's basketball team could not keep up with the high-powered Central Oklahoma offense on Saturday, falling 107-58 to their in-state foe.
The Aggie offense struggled once again as they recorded their second straight game shooting under 30 percent from the field. They were just 8-28 from three-point range and turned the ball over 20 times which resulted in 33 UCO points in the loss. One plus for the Black and Gold was their free throw shooting, which they were able to hit on 14 of their 18 attempts.
Sophomore
Maighan Hedge had her second 20-point outing of the season, scoring a game-high 23 points on 7-18 shooting from the floor, 5-11 from three, and 4-4 from the free throw line. The Aussie also had three of CU's 12 assists in the contest.
Amaka Nwakamma added 13 points on 4-8 shooting to go along with a team-high six rebounds, while freshman
Stephanie Peterson had a CU-best four helpers to go with her three points on Saturday. Â Â
CU got off to a slow start, falling behind 15-4 halfway through the first quarter. They were able to get the offense going a little to close out the frame, but still trailed 25-11 after the first 10 minutes of action. Hedge hit a three pointer to start the second to cut the deficit to eight, but the Bronchos went on to outscore CU 30-8 in the remaining seven minutes to lead 55-25 at the half.
Cameron shot just 26.7 percent in the first half, going 5-16 from three. They turned the ball over 13 times, which resulted in 25 points for UCO, who shot a red-hot 61.8 percent from the floor. Hedge led the Aggies with 13 points on 3-6 shooting from three while making CU's only four free throw attempts for the half.
In the third quarter, the Aggies tried their hardest to get back in the game, scoring 22 points in the frame. However, the UCO offense didn't miss a beat and scored 27 to lead CU 82-48 heading into the fourth. The Bronchos kept up their strong shooting into the fourth and closed out the game with 25 points in the final 10 minutes to win 107-58.
UCO shot over 50 percent from the field in all four quarters, finishing with a 58.9 field goal percentage. They were 9-22 from three and 12-15 from the charity strip. Four Bronchos scored in double-figures with Kelsey Johnson leading the way with 19 points on 8-9 shooting from the floor.
The Aggies, now 1-4 on the year, will look to bounce back from their third straight loss on Wednesday, Nov. 27, when they host Southwestern Oklahoma State for their 2019-20 home opener. Tip-off for the "Feast Week" game is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Aggie Gym. Â
