CU men host Rogers State for "Food Drive" game

LAWTON, Okla. -- The Cameron men's basketball team will hold a can food drive for their first home game of "Feast Week" against Rogers State on Monday, Nov. 24.

Food Drive:
Cameron Athletics and the Aggie men's basketball team encourage fans to bring non-perishable food products to their game against Rogers State on Monday. To encourage participation, all fans who brings two items per person for the food drive will receive free admission to the contest against the Hillcats. All donations collected will go to the Lawton Food Bank. 

Starting 5: 
1. Cameron's 65-57 loss at Newman last Wednesday marked the first time this season that the Aggies held an opponent to under 70 points in a game and the third time that CU was held under 70 points. 
2. Sophomore Kendall Scott currently leads the Aggies with 12.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game; he is tied for third in the Lone Star Conference in rebounding and 28th in scoring. 
3. Tyler Williams had his best game so far of his comeback season against the Jets, scoring a team-high 18 points on 7-14 shooting from the floor and 3-3 from the foul line to go along with seven rebounds, two steals, and one block. 
4. Rogers State made 11 and 13 three pointers in their first two games of the season and hit seven shots from long range in each of the next two games, giving them an average of 9.5 three-point makes per outing that they are making at a 41.3 percent clip.
5. Six Hillcats reached double-figures in the 90-82 win over Randall on Friday night, with 6-10 forward Gabriel Ferreira leading the way with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Christopher Miller had a 12 point, 10 rebound double-double in just 14 minutes of play. 

Last time out: 
The Cameron men's basketball team's second half road woes continued as they fell 65-57 at Newman last Wednesday night.

Senior Tyler Williams did his best to power CU to their first win of the season, scoring 18 points on 7-14 shooting from the field and 3-3 shooting from the foul line. Williams also added seven rebounds and a pair of steals in the loss. Kendall Scott chipped in 11 points, nine rebounds, and three steals, while Jalen Nicholas scored 10 points, going 6-6 from the charity stripe, and had six boards.

As a team, the Aggies shot just 36.4 percent from the floor, going 4-13 from three-point range and making 13 of their 15 free throw attempts. They turned the ball over 19 times, allowing Newman to score 24 points off their giveaways; 13 of those turnovers came on steals by the opposition. CU had seven steals of their own and lost the rebounding battle by just one board. 

About the Aggies: 
In their four games this season, Cameron has averaged 64.5 points per game while giving up over 81 points to their opposition. They are also shooting 37.6 percent from the floor, 37.7 percent from three and are making 13.5 free throws per outing at a 71.1 percent clip. CU has averaged less than a rebound more than their opponents this season and have not done a good job of controlling the basketball turning the ball over 18.8 times per contest compared to an assist average of just 7.5. Defensively, the Aggies averaged 7.5 steals and 0.8 blocks per game while allowing the opposing teams to shoot over 49 percent from the field against them. 

Sophomore Kendall Scott leads the Black and Gold in both scoring and rebounding with 12.0 points and 8.5 boards per game. Brock Schreiner is right behind him with an 11.3 scoring average while Tyler Williams is third on the team with 10.5 points per outing to go along with his team leading 1.8 steals average. The senior from Crete, Ill. is also recording 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game for the Aggies.  

Scouting the Hillcats: 
Rogers State enters Monday's game with a 4-0 record, earning wins against Southern Arkansas, Henderson State, Oklahoma Baptist, and Randall. They are averaged 87.0 points per game to start the year and are hitting on over 50 percent of their shots fro the field, over 41 percent of their three-point attempts, and 82 percent of their foul shots, which they make 21.0 per game. On the other side of the ball, the Hillcats give up 77.5 points to their opposition while allowing them to show over 41 percent from the floor and 33 percent from three. They also average 5.3 steals and 3.0 blocks per outing while holding a 7.3 advantage in the rebounding battle. 

Four RSU players are averaging double-figures in points with Marques Sumner leading the way with 19.8 points per game. Sumner also averages 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting over 47 percent from the field. Additionally, Brewster Peacock leads the squad with 6.3 rebounds per game to go along with his 15.3 point scoring average while Jett Sternberger averages 13.0 points and 1.3 steals per contest and Gabriel Ferreira averages 11.0 points and 4.5 rebounds through four games for RSU. 

Who has next:
The Aggies host Central Oklahoma on Saturday, Nov. 30, for their final non-conference game of the season. Following the matchup against UCO, CU will open up Lone Star Conference play with back-to-back Saturday road games against Western New Mexico on Dec. 7 and UT Permian Basin on Dec. 14.
