Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cameron takes RSU to overtime in loss

LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggie men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought game to the unbeaten Rogers State Hilltops 78-71 in overtime; senior Jordan Lewis poured in 19 points, with four assists, three rebounds, and a steal.

RSU took control early with a 10-4 lead that caused Aggies head coach Andrew Brown to use a timeout within the first five minutes. From that point on, the Black and Gold went on a 28-23 run to close the half, with seniors Tyler Williams and Lewis both posting six points in that stretch.

Lewis, the senior from Houston, Texas, led the way in the points category in the first half going for eight points on over 40 percent shooting from the floor with a pair of rebounds and assists to add to his stat sheet. The timeout was the turning point for CU, as they once held a lead that grew to six points but was whittled down to a point at the break.

Rogers State was led by Brewster Peacock as the junior from Verdigris, Okla. poured in 11 first-half points, going 3-for-4 from deep. On the defensive side of the floor, Peacock earned two steals and hauled in five rebounds.

The second half got off to a similar start as the first, seeing Rogers State go on a 12-3 run to start the second half, again causing coach Andrew Brown to call another time out at the 15-minute mark. Rogers State saw their lead grow to ten points with under 12 minutes to go in the game, just as they saw their first-half lead expand to 11 before the Aggies made a comeback.

CU was back within one possession with ten minutes to go in the half after a Brock Schreiner and-one sent him to the line for just the third free throw for the Aggies. Cameron regained the lead at the nine-minute mark thanks to a fadeaway jumper from junior transfer Webster Simeus.

From that point on the two sides exchanged blows seeing the lead exchange hands twice in regulation before the two teams ended up tied at 66 all to send the contest to overtime.

Schreiner shined in regulation going for 17 points and a plethora of tough buckets down the stretch, after only having three points at the break.

In the overtime period, the two sides went back and forth again seeing the lead change sides twice in five minutes. Rogers State gained control of the game with 1:51 remaining and never looked back, eventually downing the Aggies 78-71.

Brewster Peacock continued his big night finishing with 19 points on 55 percent shooting from deep, nine rebounds while swiping a trio of steals and swatting a shot on the defensive end.

The Hillcats saw four of their five starters score double figures including another double-digit scorer off the pine. Among those to notch double-digits was Tyler Davis as the Musgokee, Okla. native posted 11 points, four rebounds, eight assists, and two steals.

The Aggies had a trio of men post ten or more points in the loss. Williams finished with ten points and three steals along while Lewis and Schreiner each finished with 19 points.

After Monday's nail biter, the Hillcats remain unbeaten, and the Aggies are still searching for that elusive first win of the season. CU will try again for their first W by hosting the Central Oklahoma Bronchos on Saturday, Nov. 30, with tip-off slated for 3 p.m.
