Cameron searches for first win against UCO

LAWTON, Okla. -- The Cameron men's basketball team looks to earn their first victory of the new campaign as they host Central Oklahoma on Saturday, Nov. 30, for their final non-conference game of the season.

Starting 5: 
1. With their overtime loss to Rogers State on Monday, the Aggies are now 0-5 on the season, which is their worst start to a season since the 2007-08 campaign when Cameron dropped their first eight contests of the season. 
2. Senior Jordan Lewis scored a season-high 19 points in the loss to Rogers State; the Houston, Texas native made four three pointers in the contest, and is now 11-24 from deep on the season. 
3. Cameron blocked a season-best four shots, three coming via junior college transfer Webster Simeus, who is now tied for seventh in the Lone Star Conference with 1.0 blocks per game this season.
4. Central Oklahoma has a new head coach this season, long-time Division I head man Bob Hoffman; UCO's head man is 522-325 over his 26 years of NCAA coaching at Oklahoma Baptist, Texas-Rio Grande Valley, Mercer, and now Central Oklahoma. 
5. Junior forward Dashawn McDowell leads UCO with 13.1 points per game and is shooting the rock at a 56.1 percent clip; he is averaging 19.0 points over the Bronchos last two outings. 

Last time out: 
The Aggies looked to be on there way to their first win of the season on Monday against Rogers State, but a late surge by the Hillcats forced overtime, which they outscored CU 12-5 to get the seven-point win. 

Cameron shot 39.1 percent from both the field and three-point range, while going 8-10 from the free throw line. CU turned the ball over just eight times, a season-low, and had eight steals and four blocks on the defensive side of the ball. 

Lewis and Brock Schreiner led the Black and Gold with 19 points a piece. Lewis was 7-14 from the floor and 4-10 from long range while dishing out a team-best four assists. Tyler Williams chipped in 10 points and three steals, while Simeus had four points, four boards, and three steals in 22 minutes of action. 

About the Aggies: 
In their five games this season, the Aggies have been outscored by an average of 15.0 points, averaging just 65.8 points per game as a team. They are shooting less than 38 percent from the floor and right at 38 percent from three, hitting right at seven perimeter shots per outing. Cameron is also making 12.4 free throws per game at a 72.1 percent clip. On the glass, CU is being out-rebounded by 1.2 per contest, while in the turnover battle have just 0.8 more giveaway than their opposition. Additionally, the Aggies record 7.6 steals and 1.4 blocks per game on defense. 

Individually, Schreiner leads CU with 12.8 points per game, but is shooting under 32 percent from the field and 27 percent from three. Kendall Scott leads the team with 8.0 rebounds per outing, while adding 10.8 points on the offensive end. Both Lewis and Williams are averaging right around 10.0 points per game as well, with Lewis shooting over 45 percent from three and Williams leading CU with 2.0 steals per outing. 

Scouting the Bronchos: 
Central Oklahoma is 3-4 on the year, winning their last two contests against Midwestern State and Southwestern Christian. They are scoring 66.4 points per game and giving up 63.7 points to their opposition. UCO shoots 44.4 percent from the floor and are making their 5.3 three-pointers per game at a 32.7 percent clip. They average 14.6 made foul shots per outing with right under a 70 percent free throw percentage. The Bronchos bring in 33.7 rebounds per game, 2.0 more than their opponents, and turn the ball over just 13.9 times a game. They excel at rim protection with 3.9 blocks per game and average 6.1 swipes each contest. 

McDowell is the only UCO player scoring in double-figures heading into Saturday's matchup with a 13.1 scoring average. The junior is shooting just over 56 percent from the floor and averages 4.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Additionally, Justin Nimmer adds 9.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game to the UCO attack, while Dashon Bell averages 9.7 points and a team-best 3.0 assists. 

Who has next:
After wrapping up the non-conference slate against UCO, the Aggies will kick off Lone Star Conference play at Western New Mexico on Dec. 7 and then UT Permian Basin on Dec. 14. The Black and Gold will then host Angelo State and Lubbock Christian on Dec. 19 and Dec. 21 for their first home league contests of the year.
