Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cameron can't overcome hot shooting Chaps

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron men's basketball team lost their second straight Lone Star Conference contest with their 82-66 loss to Lubbock Christian on Thursday night.

The Aggies came into the game looking to rebound after a tough loss to UTPB last Saturday. To try and mix it up, CU made a change to the starting lineup as head coach Andrew Brown gave Connor Slater his first career start. The Elgin, Okla. native got off to a fast start pouring in six points and grabbing four rebounds at just the second media timeout. That effort helped CU regain the lead with seven minutes to play in the half, going up 22-20.

Despite the early success, the Black and Gold started to fall behind late in the first half and went into the the break down 42-28, looking for another second-half comeback. The last time CU was in the Aggie Gym, they came back from down 16 points to knock off the University of Central Oklahoma.

In the second half, the Chaps grew their lead to 17 points by the first media timeout. Senior Tyler Williams was able to score 11 points for CU to go along with four rebounds by the first media timeout in the second half. The Crete, Ill. native finished the contest with a team-high 14 points and six rebounds.

Williams was one of three Aggie scorers in double figures. CU's top rebounder, Kendall Scott, poured in 12 points with seven rebounds and two blocks, while fellow sophomore Darius Green recorded 11 points and three rebounds.

Additionally, the first-year player Slater finished his first career start with nine points, seven rebounds, and a steal.

Lubbock Christian was led by Llyod Daniels, who posted 18 points and hauled in five rebounds. He was one of five Chaps with 10-plus points in the win. LCU was on fire from deep shooting the three-point shot at a 45 percent clip; they also shot 52 percent from the floor.

Thursday's loss gives Cameron a 2-7 overall record and a 1-2 mark against conference opponents. They will look to bounce back against Angelo State on Saturday, Dec. 21, their final game before the new year.
