CU falls to Mustangs in series finale

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Cameron softball team lost their second straight Lone Star Conference series as they fell 9-0 in the series finale against MSU Texas on Saturday night.

The third game of the weekend was all Mustangs from the start. The home team scored two runs in the first, one more in the second, and then six more in the fourth to earn the run-rule victory.

All nine of MSU's runs came on RBI's, while the team totaled 12 hits in the five inning contest. Pitcher Misty Muniz had a big game, as she singled in a run in the first inning and then had a grand slam in the fourth, giving her five RBI on the day.

Muniz was strong in the circle, giving up just one hit and striking out seven Aggies; her only two other three base runners came on an error and two hit-by-pitches.

Cameron's one hit came on an infield single by Kaylyn Smith with two outs in the top of the fifth. Callie Busby reached base in the second on a HBP, while Raley Long reached on an error in the fourth and Alyssa Osterdock was hit in the fifth.

Rylee Willmon (3-2) started in the circle for the Black and Gold, giving up two earned on four hits in just 1.2 innings of work. Turner Whorton pitched the final 2.1, giving up six runs on eight hits.

The Aggies are now 10-7 on the season and 2-4 in league play, while MSU moves to 9-6 overall and 2-4 in conference games.

Cameron will look to bounce back on Tuesday, Feb. 26, as they travel to Southwestern Oklahoma State for a non-conference doubleheader.
