Cameron powers to 12-1 win over SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Cameron softball team made quick work of their trip to Weatherford as they took down Southwestern Oklahoma State 12-1 in just five innings on Tuesday.

Tuesday's game was scheduled to be a doubleheader, but due to the change in temperature's the two coaches agreed to play just one game.

The temperature may have been cold, but the Cameron bats got going early. In the first, Khmari Edwards singled with one out and then came around in to score on an error by the SWOSU right fielder after a Breley Webb single. They then added another single run in the second thanks to an Edwards' sacrifice fly that scored Bethany Hines.

Cameron then added three runs on three hits and an error in the top of the third. Abbey Warren singled with one out and then a double-steal put runners on second and third for Alyssa Osterdock. The senior third baseman reached hit a slow roller to first base to drive in Raley Long, and then an error by the SWOSU first baseman on the play allowed Warren to cross the plate as well. A Hines double put runners on second and third again, this time for Kaylyn Smith. Smith brought home Osterdock on a groundout to second to give the Aggies a 5-0 advantage.

The Aggies' big inning came in the fourth when the scored seven runs on five hits in the inning. Edwards doubled to lead off the inning and then back-to-back singles from Webb and C. Busby allowed the freshman second baseman to come in to score. Long walked to load the bases, and then after a fielder's choice erased Webb from the base paths, Osterdock singled centerfield to score C. Busby. Hines then drove in Long on a fielder's choice of her own to give CU their third run of the inning. Smith walked to load the bases again, this time for Brenna Busby. After a pitching change, the junior shortstop unloaded the bases with a bomb to right field to give CU a 12-0 advantage.

Southwestern Oklahoma put one run on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a solo homer, but that was the only trouble that Hines got into on the circle. The junior went 4.0 innings and gave up just the one run on four hits. Turner Whorton finished off the game in the fifth to secure the CU win.

CU got solid performances at the plate from multiple players, with Osterdock going 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored, C. Busby going 2-2 with a RBI and run scored, Webb going 2-3, and B. Busby driving in four on her grand slam in the fourth.
